Commitment / Other Details
I do prefer 1.5 hour, 1 on 1 lessons but I am flexible. Upon agreement, I will be able to begin immediately and as long as our lessons are consistent, I see no reason to stop teaching.
Rapport Building
I have been tutoring since I myself was a student. While I have had other jobs, tutoring is the only one that I have done consistently all these years. Currently I am in my 30s. That is many years of experience.

When I started tutoring, it was only part-time. When I first started, I was in Singapore Polytechnic. I stopped teaching for 2 years while I served my National Service in the Singapore Coast Guard but resumed once I went back out into the working world. After not being happy going to work every single day, I decided to quit my full-time job to pursue being a freelance, full-time tutor. That was 5 years ago now.

A common question I get is if I do enjoy teaching so much, why not become a full-fledged MOE teacher? Financial issues from my younger days aside, I truly enjoy the flexibility of the freelance lifestyle.

My flexible schedule can be to your advantage as well. Need to move a lesson this week to another day? If I have a slot, no problem. Want extra lessons because exams are coming up? If I have the slot why not?

I feel that learning should be a part of life, not something extra that one is forced to do. That's how I approach tutoring. Calm, relaxed but firm when I need to be.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have no issues with keeping up with the curriculum. As I had mentioned above, I have been a full-time tutor for 5 years now. I have seen the Primary and Secondary school curriculums shift and change.

Honestly, a curriculum is not the most important thing. The most important thing is the understanding of the subject matter. For example, if you've spent years doing one job and you're suddenly forced to switch to a completely different sector, you're not actually starting from scratch. You still have all your life experiences. Your understanding of how a workplace operates, your understanding of people's behaviours, your understanding of how technology works. Understanding the idea behind something means you will never have to start from scratch.
As a Good Tutor
Tutoring is different from being a school teacher. A school teacher teaches the way they are taught to teach. With a standard that somebody else has made up with completely no understanding of a student as an individual. That's not their fault; it's just how the system is.

Being a tutor to me doesn't mean being a teacher. Being a tutor means being a puzzle solver. Each individual student is a puzzle that I have to solve. The way I teach one student very rarely is the same way that I teach another.

More than that, being a tutor (especially at my age) probably means being the first adult outside of a child's family to have a personal relationship with that student. This is a responsibility that I do not overlook and I am very open with parents regarding any issues that their child might have.

    Commitment / Other Details
I can start immediately and commit for as long as the student requires me to commit.
    Rapport Building
I build rapport with my students by taking an interest in their personal lives (only if they are willing to share), sharing with them many tips and tricks I've learnt over the past 12 years of education I received, allowing them to view the subject more pleasantly and share the same joy I have while learning these subjects.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
As I just finished taking my A'levels, I am very familiar with the A'level syllabus and having taken my O'levels in 2020, I am still familiar with the O'level syllabus. Using old textbooks and school notes I have saved over the years, and the syllabus outline posted by SEAB for each subject, I will keep the relevant syllabus content fresh in my mind.
    As a Good Tutor
I will first familiarise myself with my student's learning styles and alter how I teach and the notes I make according to each student's weaknesses and strengths. I will always be patient with my students and teach to improve their understanding of the subject, hopefully increasing their passion for it. I will be meticulous in my lesson plans, and use relevant worksheets to improve the student's understanding of the subject.

I have been teaching Economics for 20 years with various education institutions. Some of my ex-students are doctors, lawyers, teachers and other professionals. They scored A by completed my well planned assignments and followed

comments on their work. Even my H1 students taking Economics as a second subject in their university after my tuition. I

believe understanding of concepts, memorising good explanations, writing the answers by students and correcting
        mistakes.

My highest record was marking more than 30 essays personally for one student in 2015. I even provided support to my regualr students with whatsapp, emailed model answers and hourly website updates hours before their exams.

        Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start on private tuition asap, and will be able to commit for at least half a year. Group tuition will have to consult regarding availability of location.
        Rapport Building
I tend to implement fun and social situations into teaching, especially in Mathematics. What I usually do is I will keep parents updated with their child's overall progress and hope to keep myself updated with the child's interests as well. This will aid me in utilising the child's newest obsession or interest into teaching.
        Keeping Up with Curriculum
Annually, new revision books will be purchased, alongside with textbooks. This will ensure that I'm constantly teaching alongside with the syllabus, and allow the child to familiarise with their usual reading and sometimes, be one step ahead. I will also be checking on the latest past-year papers whenever it is available. This allows the child to practice as well for their tests and exams.
        As a Good Tutor
Classroom management and the passion for children are definitely key. A good tutor needs to understand a child's point of view, and their proficiency, and speed in learning. Some children are adept in their academics, and some are not, which is exactly why they need guidance. Not only do we teach them academically, we are also important when it comes to building motivation, and their interest for learning. Despite being just a tutor to them, we can also encourage them and teach them to be less afraid of education.
