Commitment / Other Details
Has taught over 200 students with 100% passing rate for PSLE and O Level exams. I believe that best result only shows if both student and teacher are given sufficient time to work with one another.
Rapport Building
I am serious in my job, which is to improve my students' results. I am highly experience in striking a balance in being stern when needed, while building a strong teacher-student bond. It is important that students are comfortable with the teacher and vice versa. Therefore, I will always strive to build up the trust between my students and me.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
It is important for a tutor to always have a clear idea of school curriculum so as not to confuse the student. Tutor teaching one thing while school teacher teaching another is dangerous in veering the student in the wrong direction. Thus, I will always make sure that whatever I impart to the student will be in tune to what he/she is learning in school.
As a Good Tutor
I believe in the 3-way channel in attaining good results. First, a tutor has to be serious and committed in helping the student. Second, the student himself/herself should have the drive and passion to improve. Lastly, parents too, play an important part. When the tutor leaves for the day, it is then up to the parents to make sure that the student follows the tutor's instruction in completing practises or homework. One link cannot work without the other. Hence, when all parts are played well, good results are inevitable.

"I would like to express my thanks & appreciation to Ms Pauline for being patient & helpful to my son. He has shown significant Improvement in his Math, even his teacher at school praised him a lot for his progress. Now, my son becomes more confident in his Math subject and that's more important to me as a parent.
Ms Pauline teaches well & helps my son understand what he is learning and she has always been updating me on his progress." - Ms Novi

Pauline has already tutored my son for a month & he is very comfortable with her teaching & explanation. She knows the school syllabus well & also has been following up with my son's school spelling during every lesson. She wiil provide update on my son's progess to the extent of correcting his handwriting & getting him to practise (which I never expect a tutor to do that). Any area that my son is weak in, she will get him to practise more. Though this is only the 1st month, I hope she will continue with this positive attitude..

I had taught in a primary school for several years before leaving the service in 2011 and has since been a full-time home tutor. I specialise in teaching Primary English and Mathematics.I have been trained in STELLAR as well as Holistic Assessment. In 2009, I was also nominated for the Inspiring English Teacher Award. I had also participated in PSLE marking for 3 consecutive years.
Many of my pupils have improved after coaching and parents have also requested me to stay on to teach their children for the new semester. In situations where the child is not able to improve, I will give feedback and I will suggest parents to set realistic expectations for the child.

I can start asap and commit for long term.

I do use some assessment books during tuition. In addition, I will print other relevant materials for the child whenever necessary, for instance, news articles and stories, to stimulate composition writing ideas.

I believe that tuition is not a miracle, but it can help a child develop some discipline in the process and expose themselves to other learning materials that they may otherwise not see in school. I stress again that parents should set realistic expectations of their children and that they should strive for a balance for the child's learning. Although grades are important, but the joy of learning should be equally important. Thank you.

I am a full-time English Teacher in an International School in Singapore. This has been the case for the last 10 years. Prior to that, I was a journalist in the local media scene and had also taught in in a bilingual academy in Suzhou, China before joining the media.

As for tutoring, I have been conducting lessons in Singapore since 2006, while still with the media. The realization that I so thoroughly enjoyed teaching spurred me on to my current position. My focus is English for all levels and Mathematics up to Secondary four. For the secondary syllabus, I specialize in Elementary Mathematics.

I have seen students from 8 years of age right up till 19 years of age; many of whom are under my guidance, or have become good friends upon graduating.

I view my students as vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge. In my opinion, this has to be supported with enforcing a good value system. As a tutor, it is not just about teaching the content from the syllabus. While of course grades are of utmost important, understanding concepts and the realization of what a good education does are equally pivotal.

To back this claim, I have been blessed with many students who will be more than willing to provide supporting documentation to quantify this claim. I also adopt a mentoring approach during my group lessons, during which the students with a better ability assist the ones who are weaker. The once weaker students, upon having demonstrated substantial improvement emulate this system thereafter. This, in my opinion, build empathy and confidence.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
As I am currently a teacher, I am constantly updated on changes in the curriculum and do communicate this to the students. When you build an adaptive student, seldom are they affected by curriculum changes.
      As a Good Tutor
Love what you do, appreciate differences and always be present in the moment. A good tutor does not end the class when the time is up. He/She is one who cares for and caters to the holistic knowledge and character development of the child under his/ her charge.

Being an experienced Chinese Language secondary school teacher for the past 12 years, I am familiar with the challenges faced by students nowadays in learning their mother tongue. My many years of being a 'O'/'N' level examiner and marker have provided me with a clear insight of what is required to excel in the subject. Also having been a form teacher and classroom teacher for over a decade, I am able to communicate effectively with parents and establish good rapport with students, so as to foster positive working relationships and work towards raising the confidence and academic performance of the students. As an effectively bilingual local educator, I am able to engage local students and ensure clarity in the delivery of knowledge and concepts, which many of my past students appreciated.

      Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start providing tuition sessions right away, and also able to commit throughout. I am able to travel to student's place of residence to give tuition, but preferably in the East.
      Rapport Building
I would normally build rapport with students by firstly clarifying with them their academic needs and challenges in the subject, starting to teach the subject at their level to boost their morale and confidence, as well as being approachable and open to any feedback from them on how I can further assist them in their learning. I am also very patient and always provide encouragement to students, so that they continue to feel good about learning the subject. As for parents, I would normally build rapport with them by giving them regular feedback on the learning progress of their child, and also by discussing with them on what they can do to inculcate the child's further interest in the subject.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
As I have just left the teaching service earlier this year 2015, I am still quite familiar with the current curriculum. However, I intend to keep myself updated with the curriculum by obtaining latest information from ex-colleagues who are still teaching in schools, by regularly checking MOE/SEAB websites, as well as by checking out relevant educational text/assessment books and materials in major bookstores.
      As a Good Tutor
I believe that a good tutor should be one that understands the respective challenge(s) faced by each student, collaborates with student and parents to overcome the challenge, and endeavours to eventually raise the confidence and result of the student.

      Keeping Up with Curriculum
Curriculum-wise: I will buy the latest assignment books to review the concepts and to keep up with the current syllables. Personally, I have received questions from my younger sister and her friends, thus I have been in touch with the current syllables.
      As a Good Tutor
In my opinion, a good tutor should have a high level of passion in teaching and invest more in the preparation of worksheets and mini tests for the students.

      Additionally, he/she should
      -Plan their lessons well
      -Deliver lessons enthusiastically
-Try new methods of teaching to engage unmotivated students
-Introduce educational games to students which students play in their spare time
-Reward students with sweets or other surprises bought out of their own budget
-Prepare special sets of notes in their free time for students who need it
      -Reinforce good behavior in students
