I can start any time; my hours available are on weekday evenings. I have been teaching & tutoring for more than 20 years. I teach GP, English and Lit at all the secondary levels.
Rapport Building
I never had a problem with this.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
No problem with that because I'm a practising teacher
As a Good Tutor
Last year, I had 4 students who took the A level exam. One scored A for GP and had straight As. A Hwa Chong student of Singaporean and China parents, he was tutored for 3 1/2 years, after he joined the Singapore schools at Sec 3. The other was an army boy repeating his A; he had failed his GP at TPJC. He got a B for GP this time round. Best of all were 2 China students - fresh from China - who scored A and B for GP in a matter of 1 year. Yes, 1 year, so much for 2-yr JC education and through-trained programmes.

I would like to thank Mr Tham for helping my son in GP over 3 lessons in October and November 2016. He has extensive knowledge and has encouraged and probed my son to think more critically and deeply about the issues raised in GP. My son scored 'A' for GP. "

Have developed my own materials over time to help students.
As a Good Tutor
I have a very high A/A2 and A*/A1 rate for students coming to me from B scores, and 3 grade improvements for those that come to me failing. I have confidence in turning students around, but please bear in mind that English takes at least a year to see results, while Math can take as little as 3 months to see improvements.
I am also a mobile tutor as I understand students may have questions but they can't wait till the next time they see me to ask i.e. Mon homework and Wed submit, but tuition on Fri. Students can send me a photo over whatsapp/wechat and I will answer them at my next availability (usually within 2-3 hours as I may be in class).

            Rapport Building
For Parents: I believe in fostering strong relationships with parents to support their child's learning journey. I prioritize open communication, actively listening to their concerns, and tailoring my approach to meet each family's unique needs. Additionally, I provide supplementary services such as personal summaries, worksheets and exam planning. I ensure transparency by providing financial statements for clarity in transactions. I am committed to going the extra mile and investing additional time if needed, as long as the student is motivated to improve. Celebrating achievements together and collaborating on problem-solving further strengthens our partnership, ensuring the best outcomes for their child's education.

For Students: I prioritize engagement and understanding, allowing them to enjoy learning while staying motivated. By taking an interest in their passions and hobbies, I establish rapport and create a comfortable learning environment. Before exams, I provide encouraging pep talks to boost confidence and alleviate anxiety. Implementing short breaks every 30 minutes promotes productivity and prevents burnout. Additionally, I allocate time to listen attentively to their daily experiences, fostering a supportive relationship.
            Keeping Up with Curriculum
To keep up with the curriculum, I prioritize ongoing learning and collaboration. Regularly attending workshops, seminars, and professional development sessions helps me stay informed about curriculum changes and educational advancements. Additionally, I actively engage in discussions with colleagues, curriculum coordinators, and subject matter experts to exchange ideas and best practices. Leveraging educational resources such as textbooks, online materials, and educational journals further enhances my understanding of the curriculum content and teaching methodologies. Reflecting on my teaching experiences and student outcomes enables me to assess the effectiveness of curriculum implementation and adapt my strategies accordingly. I also participate in professional networks and online communities to stay updated on curriculum trends and innovations, ensuring that my teaching practices remain aligned with the curriculum requirements. Through continuous learning, collaboration, and reflective practice, I ensure that I deliver quality education and effectively support student learning.

In addition to attending workshops and collaborating with colleagues, I dedicate time to personally complete exam papers. This approach allows me to ensure that I can not only solve all questions but also understand the thought patterns required to work through the answers. By immersing myself in the examination process, I gain valuable insights into the nuances of different question types and identify areas where students may encounter challenges. Moreover, this practice enables me to innovate new methods of solving questions, potentially offering more accessible approaches for students. Through this proactive approach to curriculum preparation, I strive to provide students with the support and resources they need to excel academically.
            As a Good Tutor
In my opinion, a good tutor is both strict and patient. Firstly, patience is essential, as it allows the tutor to work through challenges with students at their own pace, ensuring comprehension and mastery of concepts. Adaptability is another important quality, enabling the tutor to tailor their teaching methods to suit the individual needs and learning styles of each student. Clear communication skills are also vital, as they facilitate effective explanation of complex concepts and instructions. Additionally, empathy and understanding help tutors build rapport with students, creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment. Finally, passion for teaching and subject matter expertise motivate tutors to inspire and empower students to achieve their academic goals.
