Rapport Building
My students enjoyed interacting and sharing with me as they say I always take a keen and genuine interest in what is happening to them, both in class and beyond.

I would constantly try to source for creative and innovative ways to engage students' learning of the subject like using trigger activity to hook their attention and infusing stories, jokes and puzzles to sustain their interest. My own teaching philosophy is to promote independent and active learning through the use of inquiry-based approaches. During my years of teaching Maths and POA, I try to promote such learning through the use of learning trails, self-reflection through journaling and open-ended questions that elicit multiple responses.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Even after leaving school, I continue to hone my teaching by providing private tutoring. I would constantly search for teaching related websites to look for interesting teaching resources that I could use. I also keep abreast with the latest educational research and pedagogy by reading up and subscribing to electronic educational publication.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor should be able to engage the student and adapt their teaching to suit the different learning style and needs of the students.

As a Good Tutor
Believes that passion is the key to learning. My strength is in stimulating students' learning interest. Teaching is never one size fits all, methodologies will have to be switched between students to enable them in achieving greater heights. Of the 70 students I taught this year, majority sees significant improvements. All P6 students scored A in 2019 and 2020. 100% Student retention rate from 2019 to 2020 (except P6 and Sec 4 students).
Familiar with MOE syllabus. Responsible in developing Chinese language curriculum. Specialise in Chinese composition writing and Chinese oral.

Commitment / Other Details
I can start a tuition assignment anytime, and can commit for the whole of 2022. Not confirmed when I will stop in 2023, but probably around June 2023.
Rapport Building
I believe it is important to connect with students, and make it a point to get to know each student as a person -- this has made tuition enjoyable for both me and my students, rather than a chore, and I genuinely look forward to meeting my students each week and seeing them grow.

I strongly believe in positive education, so as I get to know students better, I also try to find out what their goals and motivations are and remind them of these when the going gets tough. I never make students feel bad about themselves, but encourage them by acknowledging their strengths and good effort, and empathise with their struggles while always believing they are capable of doing better. Of course, criticism is crucial to growth, but I am careful with my words and use them as constructively as possible.

I do inject a little fun and humour into my lessons too, and I'm happy to answer questions or give advice to students whenever I can, regardless of whether questions are about academics (eg. how to choose subjects, or plan revision schedule) or otherwise (eg. how to balance commitments, or craft a solid portfolio).
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I keep myself updated on the latest curriculum: before my tuition assignment begins, I do a thorough search through the internet and read through not just MOE materials (syllabus documents), but materials from MOE schools that have been made publicly available, so I have a better sense of the priorities of school teachers.

I also have access to archives of national examination papers, and read through papers and answer keys to identify answering techniques and common trends. Of course, I will find out what I can from the student I'm teaching too, as different schools may have different focus areas and teaching/answering methods.
As a Good Tutor
I aim to always engage students through personalised lessons that target specific misconceptions/weaknesses in a subject. I am a systematic tutor, so I record all my lesson plans, materials, homework, students' progress, payment, etc. in documents that I can share with parents for transparency and accountability.

Recognising the importance of exam techniques, I will also guide students in planning an effective revision schedule, and on how to manage their time in exams and present answers clearly.

I also believe a good tutor must first be a good student -- and I think I do fit the bill, with an objectively excellent academic track record.

In primary school I was in the Gifted Education Programme, and in secondary school, the school-based gifted programme. I topped my cohort in both Advanced Literature and Integrated Humanities (with an unheard of overall perfect score in an essay-based subject), and balanced CCA leadership roles with academic enrichment (like participating in the Creative Arts Programme and the Literature Seminar as a selected speaker).

I did well enough in science and math that I was invited to join Hwa Chong's Science and Math Talent Programme, before I even joined the school or took their selection test. Outside of lessons, I also did a science research project and taught myself to code in Python.

It wasn't always easy, and at times I did do quite badly because of other commitments, but I always managed to pick myself up quickly and identify learning gaps and strategies in time. I hope I can use my experience to build my students up too!

i am able to start a week after arrangements have been made as i would like to tailor lessons to suit the student's needs. i would be able to commit for a year or so if the student shows improvement
        Rapport Building
with students i can relate to them as the experience of learning and the dread of exams are all too familiar with me. hopefully i can come off as approachable and they can also contact me on other days should they have any pressing questions. for parents, i will track student's improvement in results to record their progress.
        Keeping Up with Curriculum
as i have just graduated from JC, the curriculum is relatively fresh in my mind. should there be any changes, it can be viewed on the relevant testing board's website
        As a Good Tutor
im quite flexible so i will try to adjust myself to suit student's learning styles and needs. im also rather patient as i have struggled in the education system as well and have met my fair share of dedicated teachers whos merits i hope to uphold. i would also want to teach students how to self learn and be more independent as it is a skill that would propel them in life. furthermore i will also prepare learning material and set homework (if they are able to keep up with schoolwork). lastly, i place emphasis on mental health as a stress and feelings of inadequacy often lead students to burn out
