I was part of an alumni of my secondary school, Nan Chiau Youth Mentors, where graduated students return to mentor the juniors and help out in night studies. I have also conducted a presentation with the graduating cohort in 2011 about studying skills and tips in the school.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I will keep in contact with both the parents and students to inform them about my schedule and to also be informed about the student's availability. I am also responsible, so I will generally keep to timings that I know I will be able to make it, so that students will not be confused and this will prevent the hindering of their learning.

As a Good Tutor: To be a good tutor, I feel that it is important for me to cater to the learning style of the student.
This is through teaching the student with what they enjoy ie area of interests and allow them to see the link between what they like and what they have to learn. I will also ensure that students can understand and not just purely memorise the concepts to ensure that the things they learnt can remain in their brain for a longer period of time, so as to facilitate easier studying process during exam periods.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I was in the school team for physics olympiad, and I was in the Singapore national team for the International Young Physicist's Tournament 2011 in Iran and International Olympiad of Astronomy and Astrophysics 2011 in Poland. I keep myself updated on the curriculum as I often go back to my school as alumni to assist the school with preparation for competitions, and I am revising maths and physics for undergraduate studies in my own time.

As a Good Tutor: I was a cca club president in school, and hence have given numerous lectures in astronomy. I consider it very important for tutors to be 100% confident on the subjects they teaching so that the tuition sessions can be dynamic and the tutor can respond to any queries by the tutee easily. I also believe in committing a lesson to memory in its entirety before the commencement of every tuition session to make sure tuition sessions are fluid and there is no wasted time on consulting notes, which should only be necessary when it comes to more difficult and unusual questions, if at all.

Rapport Building: Usually, i will update parents through sms or emails, on a weekly or regular basis (depending on availability or preferance of parents) with regards to their child's studies/ curriculum needs. I like to keep a close rapport with my students by sometimes having short study or leisure outings, creating fun quizzes and conducting monthly tests. They are also encouraged to email, sms or call me should there be any school homework or assignments which they need help on.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Being an avid reader, i understand that most syllables are updated regularly. I make it a point to surf online and visit Popular bookstores often to view any latest updates. Also, i download several testpapers to compare old and new curriculum, thus i'm able to figure out better and more effective teaching methods on a daily basis.

As a Good Tutor: Personally, i feel that a good tutor not only has to be very patient but also attentive in understanding a student's learning capabilities and level of interest. In creating a comfortable and lively study environment, most students are able to overcome their difficulties and indirectly strive harder in learning. I think a good tutor should have very flexible teaching approaches by keeping an open mind.
