Rapport Building: I would build rapport with students by understanding their weaknesses and needs in their academics and answering their questions promptly. Besides focusing on academics, I would expose them to a variety of learning resources such as literary articles and online resources which may interest them and thus, help them to achieve productive learning. I would also encourage discussions during lessons in which students verbalize their thoughts. I believe this would help us communicate better.

Commitment / Other Details: I am able to start as soon as possible and commit for long term for now as I am waiting for my diploma certificate as I am graduating from Diploma in Healthcare Administration awarded by Republic Polytechnic.

I am available and able to commit on any days except Monday and Tuesday evenings. I am also available to go down to the houses or hold the classes at my own home.

Rapport Building: The four most important factors in rapport building would be

1)Respect. Teachers and students must show respect for each other.

2) Approach ability. Students have to feel comfortable coming to the tuition classes and tutor must be willing to speak with students even after class sessions regardless of the issues they face.

3) Caring. Tutors need to care about learning and show that they want students to learn the material. This would give their parents the confidence in the tutors. An example would be having a chat session with the parents after the exams and discuss if there is any improvements seen.

4) Positive attitude. Tutors should have a sense of humor and be open to points of view other than their own, having the students to be more open-minded.

On top of that, building rapport with the student/s is crucial and hence, before starting the tution, I will have a short casual talk with the students to get updates of the progress in school and other matters such as CCA and their school involvement.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: As a student care teacher at Da Qiao Primary School, I am very familiar with the current MOE syllabus. Daily homework supervision with the students enable me to keep myself updated with the curriculum.

As a Good Tutor: In my opining, a good tutor is able to tap on the student's strengths as well as identify their weaknesses and make it better progressively.

A good tutor is also able to build a good rapport with their students and identify the type of learner (Visual, Audio or Kinestetic) to make learning comfortable for the students.

I taught a primary 3 Vietnamese student Chinese from 2009 to 2011 and he manage to improve from a failing grade to a B grade.
From 2010 to 2012, I taught a primary 5 student mathematics and science. She manage to improve from failing grades to B and C respectively in her PSLE.
I am teaching a primary 4 and primary 5 student all four subjects currently. My primary 4 boy had managed to improve an average of B and C grades to an average of A and B grades in his recent exam. On the other hand, my primary 5 girl had managed to improve from failing grades to an average of C and B grades in her recent exam.

In addition, communicate well with the parents so that both teacher and parents can work hand in hand together and find out what are the ways and problems to help the child to improve a better grade.
