I will be able to start on the first week of July and the timings can be discussed. I will travel to your place to conduct lessons and will make sure the lessons are tailored to suit your child!
Rapport Building
At every first lesson, I take some time to learn more about the child and also talk to the parents about their specific concerns and discuss with them some methods I would like to use with their child. From then on, I tailor the lessons to suit each child's individual character and learning styles. I also give the child homework every lesson which I update the parent about after each lesson while also updating with them the progress their child is making. If the student keeps up with his/her homework consistently, I bring them some treats to reward them so they are motivated to continue their efforts. I also usually keep a diary in which I update the tasks accomplished during each lesson and depending on the parent, show it to them in regular intervals.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Generally I keep up with the curriculum by updating myself online or through assessment books in the market. However, as I've seen that different schools have slightly different styles of teaching the same content, I usually like to take a look at the student's school materials during the first lesson so that I'm not only aware of the current curriculum but also aware of the child's school's expectations when it comes to homework and tests so that I can cater to each specific child.
As a Good Tutor
There's not much to being a good tutor, there are many out there who have mastered the content but at the end of the day, a child will only listen to someone he/she likes and someone he/she looks up to. While I can go on about how committed I am, I think it is more important to say that I will truly try to understand your child and connect with him/her while also being a good example. Only after I become a good friend to the child will the child see me as a good tutor.

I would ask them if they already have assessment books they would like to use. I would find out from the child how they are, what his favourite subject is and which is his least favourite.                 I am an A-level grad waiting for university to commence. Math has always been my strongest subject and i have gotten consistent As, from A star in PSLE to A1 in both Emath and Amath in sec sch and A for A levels. Currently i am a relief teacher in a secondary school and is also a part time tutor. I have about a year of experience teaching primary school and secondary school students. When i was in jc1, i taught about 5 students as an assistant tutor for half a year. Currently, i am teaching a primary 6 student and has been doing so for about half a year. Her grades improved from C to A after just a short few lessons on math. Since math is a subject that requires a lot of practise, after going through a summary of the topics, i let her do questions and practise papers. I also look for questions on topics that she is particularly weak in and push her before the exams.

                  When I first start any tuition assignment, I make the effort to learn about the student's general attitude and outlook on studies. This is important because it allows me to gauge my response and teaching method. Every student is different and tuition is beyond just teaching a subject. Its about understanding what is the best way to unlock the potential within the child and continue to help guide and teach the child on how to learn and apply the knowledge that they have gained. Something that they can use and apply even after the tuition is over.

                  With the ease and availability of the internet, I just have to do a simple google search or go to the local popular store to read up and prepare prior to a tuition assignment. Like I mentioned earlier, I have developed my skills in learning things fast and efficiently and I would be more than willing to share it with my future students.

                  There are 5 basic qualities I personally feel that a good tutor should have:

                  1. Resourceful - A tutor that is resourceful enough to find materials and have ample supply of relevant information prepared and ready for the tutee before class.

                  2. Honest - A tutor that can be trusted.

                  3. Reliable - A tutor that won't just flake from a tuition session and a tutor that you know you can count on to be there for help when the child is undergoing exam period and the school teachers are swamped with child's requests.

                  4. Friendly - A tutor that is able to relate to both the student and the parent in order to make the best out of the tuition session

                  5. Good time management skills - A tutor that can schedule his/her time well before/during/after a lesson so to ensure that the student gets the best from every session
