Rapport Building: In order to allow the students to improve in their studies, I feel that there's a need to have a bond between the tutor and the parents. Tutor may help to solve the child's queries and teach them more knowledge. However, there's a need for the tutor to update the parents on the status of the child's learning after each tuition session. Besides that, there's a need to advise on the parents' role in the child's learning journey.

There's also a need to maintain a good relationship with the students.
Tutors may be strict. However, being friends with the students may be an alternative option.
This would mean that the tutor is more approachable and there may not be a gap.
In other words, should the student face any difficulty, they will just ask the tutor without any hesitations.

Keeping Up with Curriculum

As a Good Tutor: Basic Qualities of good tutors include:

- Be patient
- Willing to commit time & effort to help students.
- Always having the best interest of the students
- Maintaining good relationship with the students & their parents.
- Be ethical.
- Be fair. (This is especially important when coming to group tuition sessions)
- Be nice and friendly.
- Be interesting. (Able to catch the attention of the students instead of making the student doze off)

Commitment / Other Details: I am an undergraduate studying full-time at the Singapore Management University. Hence, my timetable is rather flexible to play around. However, I would prefer to start after 19 August. I will definitely stay with the student until the end of the academic year unless there are exceptional cases.

Rapport Building: I will give them my handphone number at the very first lesson. I always love to receive calls from my students, asking me how to solve any questions, no matter what time it is. I believe, through this, my students will be able to do their work at anytime and can look for me once they are stuck with any questions. As for building rapport with their parents? I will message the progress of the student to the parent once in a while and feedback to them whether their children are doing well or doing badly.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: To keep up with curriculum, I expect my students to finish all the homework that I have given them, to do the week before. I always feel that practicing is very important and emphasise on this very much. Hence, I would always jot down their homework on a notebook and expect them refer and complete it by the next lesson. Otherwise, they will be 'punished' with more work to do. This has been really effective for my previous students. Sometimes, I do get help from their parents to supervise their children on doing their homework before tuition so that we will not waste too much tuition time doing homework that should be done at home.

As a Good Tutor: As a good tutor, I listen to my students' troubles and problems. I was a student before and I empathise them. Hence, sometimes I will cut down on their workload for tuition. I always believe that practise makes perfect. So, I will still hand them homework but maybe not a lot. This is for exceptional cases too.
