I used to be an ex tuition student, having signed up for many private or group tuitions, still keep their notes. I have seen the good and bad from teachers, how some do not put in as much effort as others because of their lack of initiative and commitment. The teachers who are lazy just come for classes asking if the students have any questions but the ones who are passionate put in the effort to print questions and provide notes for students. I believe honest communication to the parents about the child's performance is important because all parents want the best for their child but some are just too busy with work or lack the knowledge to teach. Instead, they need someone to monitor their child and provide advice regularly.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
I believe in doing Past year exam papers for students nearing their big exams and doing past school exam papers to prepare students for mid-year or the end of year exams. I read the syllabus of the textbooks before coming to class so I can suit the students learning needs. Eg to not teach algebra to a primary school student but to find other ways to simplify the process to make it easier for the student to visualize and absorb. This way each student can learn at their own pace and own level.

      Rapport Building
I graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in a Diploma in Music (Teaching) as a Piano Major in 2010. During this graduation, I was awarded the "Best Graduate" Award and graduated with a Distinction. I then went onto attain a Bachelors in Music Education with NIE. I have grown up taking ABRSM examinations in both practical and theory. And have attained Grade 8 in both. I am familiar with the syllabus and practices of music examinations.

I have been teaching one-to-one students since 2014. The students whom I have met are a range from 4 years old to adults. I am comfortable with students who would like to learn piano for an interest or would like to pursue the academic route of taking on ABRSM examinations. I have qualifications in Singing as well and will be able to combine some singing into the piano lessons if that might interest a child.

I believe that music enriches a person and provides an avenue to develop oneself as well as one's mind to perceive things in a different way.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am updated with the curriculum by following various accounts as well as personal reading up. I also have a good support of circle of friends who are also in the music industry to share and receive tips on how to improve and support one another.
      As a Good Tutor
I am able to communicate well and I believe that respect and open communication is important. Hence, I will always speak to the parent of the student or the student during the first lesson (and subsequent lessons) to understand expectations and work together to achieve these goals together. I also believe that there will always be a way to help interest and motivate a student, a teacher just have to find the spark in the student.

        Rapport Building
Before we proceed with anything else, it would be great if I could have a chat with the parents and understand more about how they feel about their child's current results as well as how their child is coping with school, in terms of both academics and non-academics. This is important as maybe the student could have alot of commitments and may not be able to fully balance work and hence require some help from tuition. As a ex-student, I understand that students may have lots of commitment during their schooling days and as a result may not be able to keep up with school work. After which, I would like to explain how I teach, such that the parents would understand my style of teaching. In addition, I strongly encourage parents to discuss with me regarding how they feel about my teaching style, how their child is improving, or any feedback that they wish to give.
        Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have a secondary 2 sister and a secondary 4 brother. As such, I always keep myself updated to be able to guide my siblings through their education, especially since it is still manageable at a secondary school level. However I will not be able to keep up with A level subjects as it is very in-depth and will need a lot of time to focus on.
        As a Good Tutor
I believe in teaching students about how they should grasp concepts, as well as understand topics and be able to freely apply any concept or laws that they have been taught. Rather than focusing on simply doing practices, or even in a consultation based tuition, I believe that fundamentals should be properly taught. If I am given enough time to teach the student, in the event that his/her exam is still months away, I would ensure that the student understands the fundamentals before proceeding with practices and papers. Endless papers and practices will only tire the student, whilst allowing them to grasp the fundamentals will allow them to excel, and enjoy learning.

A happy student, will be able to learn much faster as compared to a tired student. I believe that it is our job as a tutor to be able to encourage, motivate and advice students on how they should study as well as guiding them through their educational journey.
