Learning music is like learning a language. You would not engage a English tutor who is not qualified to teach you or your child the English language would you?

As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor you have to make classes engaging and ensure that the students enjoy the process of learning. I personally there are an abundance of music tutors who are not qualified to teach music and educating students with incorrect theory and concepts and developing bad technical habits which can lead to pernment physical injuries. Learning music and musical instrument is like learning a new language. Be it your are a total beginner or and advance guitarist, classes are tailored to your level and abilities. Wheather you are taking classes in preparation for grades and exams or leisure we have a class for you.

I believe it is important to update the parents on the child's progress each week, by speaking to them and additionally, keeping a notebook to update what was covered during each session. This is important for parents to understand how they can help their child practice at home. As for the students, it is important to praise them to boost their confidence levels. It is also important to ask if they have any queries after each lesson, or provide feedback about the lesson so that I can improve my teaching. The most important thing I want out of teaching is for the child to learn music as well as to enjoy it.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
Besides taking private piano lessons since I was 3 years old, I joined the Music Elective Programme in Secondary School, and Chinese Orchestra. In VJC, I joined the Strings Ensemble and was the President and Sectional Leader of the cello section.

Tutoring since Uni days. To me, tuition is not just about the subject but to help unlock the student's potential to learn and apply the knowledge. I have been well trained in that since Uni days.

          Rapport Building
When I first start any tuition assignment, I make the effort to learn about the student's general attitude and outlook on studies. This is important because it allows me to gauge my response and teaching method. Every student is different and tuition is beyond just teaching a subject. Its about understanding what is the best way to unlock the potential within the child and continue to help guide and teach the child on how to learn and apply the knowledge that they have gained. Something that they can use and apply even after the tuition is over.
          Keeping Up with Curriculum
With the ease and availability of the internet, I just have to do a simple google search or go to the local popular store to read up and prepare prior to a tuition assignment. Like I mentioned earlier, I have developed my skills in learning things fast and efficiently and I would be more than willing to share it with my future students.
          As a Good Tutor
There are 5 basic qualities I personally feel that a good tutor should have:

          1. Resourceful - A tutor that is resourceful enough to find materials and have ample supply of relevant information prepared and ready for the tutee before class.

          2. Honest - A tutor that can be trusted.

          3. Reliable - A tutor that won't just flake from a tuition session and a tutor that you know you can count on to be there for help when the child is undergoing exam period and the school teachers are swamped with child's requests.

          4. Friendly - A tutor that is able to relate to both the student and the parent in order to make the best out of the tuition session

          5. Good time management skills - A tutor that can schedule his/her time well before/during/after a lesson so to ensure that the student gets the best from every session
