Rapport Building: During my tutoring session, I do believe that each lesson requires a 20 min to discuss and recap. 10 min before the lesson to recap and allow my student to think what he/she would like to cover for this lesson and the last ten mins to summarize the learning points for the day.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I have friends who are teachers at secondary & primary schools. So my lesson plans and materials used for tutoring are those on par with what the students learn at school.

As a Good Tutor: I feel that my ability to communicate well with the student is a plus point. When you are able to engage the student, he/she will look forward to your lessons with more interest.

After months of practice and printing out practice worsheets for them to do, they both manage to improve by up to 2 grades. Not only that, for Maly language, they have improved not just in wreitten work bu tin the way they speak as well.

I always believe in this quote. I think passion in helping others, tutoring and the sincerity in their hearts to see their students do well would be the good qualities of a great tutor. Patience is key too and without the drive to want to see the students succeed, there will not be any improvement on both the tutor as well as the students.

Tuition/Teaching Experience: I have one year of tutoring experience within my family. I have helped my younger cousins in their O levels preparations. I am currently a Life Science undergraduate in NUS and fully confident to help any students in their science subjects.

As a student, I am have always tried to be an all-rounder. I have always tried to score and do well in all subjects. I do not try to ace one, while sacrificing the other. I strongly believe that one can only do well in a subject if he/she develops interest in that subject. Otherwise, nothing makes sense.

Hence, my aim or approach would be to start by developing some form of interest in the subject before making students practice. I do not like to overload students with homework. I will also share any tips and tricks that I have picked up.

Rapport Building: For students, normally first lesson I spend time getting to know them, their interests, hobbies and activities that they're involved in school. That way, I can know their personalities and what interests them. Mini gifts and incentives along the way depending on their progress is something I try as well.

As for parents, it's important to meet their expectations as they are paying me and it's their child I'm trying to help. It's important that we're on the same page as to what's best for their child. Being punctual, being accommodating and not changing/skipping lessons often is always a good thing.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I have friends who are teaching or a training to be teachers. I keep in touch with my teachers as well. I can also get up to date syllabus information from the MOE website easily.

As a Good Tutor: - Knowledgeable: If I do not have any knowledge to pass on, there's no point.

- Patience: Students who seek tuition often need extra help than what is provided in school, hence, patience and understanding is required.

- Bridge between teacher and parent: I need to be the teacher but at the same time be a friend who can teach, motivate and inspire a student.

Commitment / Other Details: As I am currently working in an engineering company with normal shift hours, I am able to start immediately on weekdays (evening/night) and weekends (morning/afternoon).

Rapport Building: To build rapport with my students, I will ask about his/her studies, how is he/her coping with the school load, what topic(s) he/she have doubts in and how comfortable he/she is with the school curriculum. With these weekly feedback, I will then be able to adjust the tuition pace and help the student to understand to the best of my ability.

Not to forget, I will have a Q&A session the parents after each tuition session, so as to understand the parents' concerns and also to let them know about their child's progress.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: To keep up with the curriculum, I will go to book stores to buy relevant textbooks and assessment books and familiarise with it, so that I will be better prepared for each tuition session.

As a Good Tutor: Personally, I find that a student's interest is most important in his/her learning journey. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to keep the student interested in what he/she is learning. When accepting any tuition job, I hope to keep the learning journey fun and meaningful for both the student and parents.
