Rapport Building: When I start, I usually go through the student's work and do some basic exercises to determine the level of competency. I then customize the content to cater to the individual's unique needs. I build rapport with parents by communicating the student's strengths and weaknesses to the parents on a regular basis - through casual chats mostly.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I keep myself updated with the curriculum by browsing materials from the MOE website. Exposure to student teaching materials will also keep me updated.

As a Good Tutor: A good tutor should be able to identify the problem areas. Every student has his or her own unique strengths and weaknesses. Good tutors should, through interaction with the student, be able to pinpoint where the problem lies. Good tutors should also be competent in delivering content. Being competent means that the tutor should be also to articulate content clearly to students. Scoring As and teaching others to score As are two totally different things. Good tutors should be able to provide smart and reliable study tips for the students so that they can produce good results.

Rapport Building: I try to understand my students' expectations of me. I will advise my students to set goals and encourage them to realize that goal to be where they would like to be. I will try to plan out the steps towards their goal using small, yet achievable steps that can generate a sense of achievement and keep the motivation going. To me, it is important to let my students feel and know that they are not alone in this journey and that we as teachers will always be supporting them. Hand-in-hand, we work together, towards our common goal.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I am very familiar with the O Level Biology syllabus as I have been teaching students O Level Biology recently. I am also quite familiar with the A Level Biology syllabus as I have recently graduated from Junior College and more importantly, I can pick up new content easily as I have a strong foundation in Biology.

I am very familiar with the JLPT syllabus as I have taken the N4, N3, N2 and N1 exams on consecutive years, with the N1 taken less than a year ago.

I am in touch with Yang Qin and I practice it during my spare time.

As a Good Tutor: Following in the footsteps of my teachers who groomed me well in biology, I believe that good tutors must be dedicated and committed. This means that the tutor must have the passion to teach and must want the student to excel as much as the student wants to. Good tutors do not give up on their students. They brave the storms together with their students, hand-in-hand, towards a brighter tomorrow. I believe that a good tutor is a person who is receptive to and enthusiastic about learning. As such, they must be willing to find answers for their students even if they are unable to come up with solutions for them immediately.
