Upon the first meet, I take it upon myself to cheerfully introduce myself. So as to break the ice and create a comfortable atmosphere. I always update the parents on what had been gone through the lesson that day and how they can keep track of their child in studying and what could be done in the meanwhile to strengthen the student's understanding in the subject. This is often what I do with primary school parents or lower secondary parents, as upper secondary students and self directed learners. When it come to teaching the student, I don'd dive into teaching right away in the first lesson. I try to get to know the student's weakness, strengths and interests. Once I am able to gauge the student's level of understanding, I then briefly explain the lessons objectives to the students. i inculcate their interests while explaining contexts to them, so as to make lesson enjoyable and comprehensive. At the end of the lesson I wrap up things by explaining what we did in the lesson an perhaps give homework if necessary. The following lesson, I quiz the students about what was learnt in the previous lesson. It works like a reward system, which motivates students to learn more and be competitive,
Keeping Up with Curriculum
For every student I have a folder to track what I have gone through with them. I also have a copy of the syllabus content of every student to refer to. As a student myself, I am always learning. Hence it makes it easier for me to keep up with the curriculum
As a Good Tutor
I think and believe Patience and dedication is vital as a tutor. Not all students are same. Everyone had different ways of learning, some are quick, some are slow and some just need a little push. As a student myself, I believe a teacher should play two roles. Being strict and friendly when needed. Good tutors must be willing to adapt and change themselves according the student. They must come down the students level of understanding and go ahead teaching from there

    i think it's important to have a friendly relationship with students, whilst still maintaining a professional front so that the student still understands that while learning can be a really fun process, their progress is still to be taken seriously and is of utmost importance to me! it's important to know the student on a more personal level, to be able to better cater to their learning needs and styles, allowing for more effective progress overall.

    i think it's essential for parents to be kept updated on their child's progress, and ways in which they can support their child's learning as well!

        I believe that the key to a good tutor tutee relationship is transparency; transparency between the tutor and the tutee and the parents as well. Divulging the lesson plan to the tutee allowing the tutee to prepare for forthcoming lessons could allow the tutee to be more prepared for the lesson, hence increasing the overall effectiveness of the lessons. To be an effective tutor would also mean that a relaxed yet competent working environment is instrumental. Only when a certain comfort level is achieved, the tutee would be more articulate and vocal when it comes to asking questions and seeking clarification.
