Keeping Up with Curriculum
I keep up with the curriculum by reading the textbooks my sister had. She is currently in J1, hence, I have stopped tutoring her.
As a Good Tutor
It is important to be patient and encouraging. I have also learnt that it is important not to 'spoon-feed' the student as they will not be able to learn. I will be very detailed in my explanation when a student does not know the answer. Once I have explained the answer, I will let them try the question again to ensure that they know the reasoning behind the answer.

I commit long term, nurturing my students from the beginning till their graduating examinations. I am very flexible, Able to start in a short notice. Very flexible to meet student's timetable.
    Rapport Building
I will take the first lesson as an assessment of student's ability and standard. Usually getting to know the timetable and the study routine, understanding what has been done so far for the student, in school and outside of. I am very approachable and relatable due to my age, students feel comfortable talking to me about problems they face. I believe in coaching a student both academically and mentally through my short but rich experince I have had, giving them valuable life lessons along the way, in hopes of guiding them to a brighter future. In terms of communication with parents, it is kept to a minimal. I will give an overview of their child's standard and potential during the first lesson and quarterly reviews. Otherwise, I strongly believe in independent learning, and is part of the qualities i wish to inculcate in my students. Of course, if there is any issue parents will be notified asap.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
At the start of every year, I will review the syllabus through MOE websites and various sources to ensure I'm up to date with the curriculum.
    As a Good Tutor
Graduating with a First Class Honours in Accounting and Finance, with 9 distinctions out of 12 modules, I was awarded the Achievers Award for Excellence. I have a strong passion for teaching. This began when I offered help to teach my niece and nephew while I was studying in university. Since then, I have coached more than 50 students all improving leaps and bounds, bringing forth their greatest potential. The feeling of truly connecting with them and helping them understand concepts motivates me to go the extra mile. My strength is in Mathematics and English, also the ability to tailor the lesson to cater to the individual students. I believe in making an impact on the students' lives, being the hand that reaches out to them when they are lost and coaching them back on the right path always spurs me on. At the end of the day, I want to believe I have made a difference in their lives.

I am able to start right away and will commit to an assignment for as long as necessary. Open to weekend group sessions, opposite Yew Tee MRT.
      Rapport Building
My teaching approach is one that is both fun and easy to understand. I believe 'the less a person has to memorise, the less he has to forget'. Helping students to link together multiple perspectives gives them a less complicated take on an otherwise rudimentary process. As a result, students are usually pleasantly surprised when I show them just how much more comfortable with the subject they have become over the duration of our learning journey together.

I encourage a healthy dose of wit and sarcasm amongst students, and often prompt them to hunt for their own answers. Rather than providing solutions straight-up, suggestions are usually angled to fuel the students' need to know, as well as their drive to go one-up on the teacher. In doing so, it is easier for students to take ownership of their tasks and, at the same time, feel a greater sense of achievement even if they do not attain the desired outcome. In this case, the process is more important than the result.

Open and consistent communication with students' parents is an absolute necessity, as it offers parents the rare opportunity to hear about their children outside of the home environment. Apart from providing updates on students' progress, I like to raise awareness to the character tendencies my students display and make suggestions on how to maximise their potential based on these behavioural patterns.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
Primarily, I keep close contact with school teachers and other NAFA lecturers to discuss local trends and changes to curricula. I also attend talks and seminars conducted by groups like NIE and NAC to keep myself updated.

In my free time, I frequent educational forums and articles pertaining to values and techniques. This helps me prepare to gain a better understanding of my potential target audience.

I also have an interest in sociopolitics and psychology, and constantly find myself bantering with friends in these respective fields.
      As a Good Tutor
      1) Part of the family. No matter how good a teacher is, it is not possible to gain the respect or trust of students, especially older ones, without first proverbially shedding the mercenarial skin. Only after students feel comfortable enough to lower their guard, will they be able to reveal their vulnerabilities and disregard their fears of being judged.

      2) Easy to relate to. Hiring a knowledgeable stranger to tutor a child is just about the least useful way to spend your hard-earned money. A good tutor should be able to explain and guide in the language that the student speaks.

      3) Inspirational. The first half of this equation involves igniting and nurturing the curiosity within students, getting them to form questions of their own. The second half, is about being able to accept the fact that failure is a crucial component for success and is not a defining factor to a person's character. This is a mindset that both teacher and student must understand and practice.

              Rapport Building
I will keep up to date on how the student is progressing. Usually understanding their needs and patterns as I do not want to stress them out with loads of learning since they have already been attending classes during the day. Helping them out with what they are unsure of is usually my type of teaching, from there I would ensure recaps on what they have been learning on every lesson and how they have been putting what they have learnt into practice as we go along with our weekly lessons.
              Keeping Up with Curriculum
On my side as a tutor, I take records on what I have taught and how I go about doing them. Weekly reflection before every lesson by myself plays alot of part for me as a tutor to ensure that I am sure of what I am instilling in my student.
              As a Good Tutor
Responsible, patient and friendly. This is because every individual student have their own way of understanding and learning. It pays to make every lesson meaningful as it is shows how the students are able to enjoy and look forward to every lesson and it helps with them remembering what they have learnt along the way.

My students love my lessons because I am engaging and motivating. I believe in shaping the right mindsets and attitudes through encouragement and positive self-belief. I also keep their parents informed and updated with their progress and work hand-in-hand with them to help my students excel.
                    Keeping Up with Curriculum
As I have been teaching for the last 20 years without a break, I have been constantly updated with the changes to the curriculum.
                    As a Good Tutor
A good tutor does not only teach. He/She ensures that effective learning takes place by pitching the lessons at the right level so that students learn easily and without being unduly stressed. A good tutor also motivates and encourages because every child has the seed of greatness within himself/herself, and with proper nurture, he/she will be able to excel and achieve outstanding results.
