- I worked at Kumon center guiding kids (from age 4 to 14) in English and Math for about 9months.

- I used to work as a part-time IT trainer. It required me to conduct IT lessons to a class of primary school students at the various primary schools.

- I was a student mentor during my education in Singapore Polytechnic. I was assigned to 1 or 2 students at the assigned primary school.

Commitment / Other Details: I am currently in the national service now. I would and could commit to weekend classes the most and timings after i book out from camp.

Rapport Building: I would inform the parents on how well the student is doing whenever i can. And would also have them to help make sure that the student will do their homework and revise when they are free. With the student, i will be patient with them and will praise the student whenever they do it right and will not say anything to bring their morale down. I can also share my past experience on how i study and tips to the student and parents.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: As i have a brother in secondary 3 now i could easily get notes and tips from him about the change in curriculum. I also have friends giving tuition and hence keeping up to date would not be a big problem to me.

As a Good Tutor: To be a good tutor, we have to set good examples to the students. One most important point to be one is to keep them motivated and to boost their confidence int heir studies. As when i was younger i think that motivation and the confidence is most important to us. Tips on examinations would help in being a good tutor, examples like time keeping and exam pointers would be very helpful and resourceful to the students too.

Commitment / Other Details: I will be available every week and typical schedule for me will be one weekday and one weekend, I believe the right environment is very important for a child to learn and typically i will look out for places like CCs around where the tuition is needed and have the tuition near the home of the child and I believe that the child will learn better and absorb more without distractions from home.

Rapport Building: I advocate encouragement and if need be I will talk and share with parents about the child's strength and weaknesses and typically brief the parents on what I will be doing and what will be given to the child for instance for English tuition, I typically request a newspaper write up or a vocabulary quiz or a journal. Typically I prefer an encouraging tone and focus on rewards and reinforcements, however I will instill as well a thinking process, for instance in mathematics, no straightforward answers will be given, the child will be guided and induced into thinking and solve the questions, I will also reward when the child receives a good grade for exams or even improvement.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I keep myself updated on the curriculum through reading up the textbooks and assessment books to better equip myself to be better able to teach my students.

As a Good Tutor: Encouragement and non-discriminating, as mentioned I believe hard work and good techniques can lead to success.
