    Testimonial from Students

The lessons I had were not as bad as I have imagined at first. POA was one of my poorest subject because I did not have an interest in it. However, Ms Helen managed to ignite some sort of will in me to learn and put in more effort to do better. I managed to improve from E8 to B3. Thanks to her. She motivates her students and I will always be thankful for her guidance.

    Alex
Since I have not taken POA in secondary school, I had no accounting knowledge and I find myself lagging behind my current school syllabus. I’m facing a hard time catching up so I decided to engage a home tutor, Ms Helen. She managed to clear my doubts and passed me some techniques that was not taught in school. Through her guidance, my results have no doubt improved. I appreciate her efforts and for having a high expectations on me.

    Elene
Helen is a well experienced professional POA teacher. She helps me in sustaining A’s constantly. Whenever we have doubts in certain topics, she would cover the topic again with us. I inspire her determination and patience with us.

    Elena
Helen is a professional POA teacher. She is a caring, helpful and cheerful teacher. Despite having difficulties in my work, she helped me to achieve good grades. With her great determination and perseverance to coach students, she always give her best to elaborate on certain topics we don’t understand. She even motivated me to excel in this subject by giving me a goal to achieve in my papers and rewarded me. Her critical thinking and ideas helped me to understand a lot more about accounts. With her outgoing and cheerful personality, I enjoy her lessons more than that in school.

    Charlene
The lessons were really interesting and engaging. I’ve learnt a lot of new concepts which I was not aware of before. Even though I had a month of lessons only, I find that I am able to catch up fast with Ms Helen’s never ending help. At first I was totally lost and confused but she kept on explaining to me and now I finally understand most of the topics.

    Phyllis
Ms Helen explains concepts clearly and is patient in explaining and teaching. She responds quickly whenever I come to her for help in POA. She also has many teaching styles and her teaching improved my POA from B4 to A2 in 2 months.

Hello! I am a graduated JC2 student awaiting my A Level results. I have been on the Dean's List (Academic) for both my years in JC, achieving A grades for all subjects in my Prelim examinations. In secondary school, I consistently achieved A*s in E-maths, English, and Biology in my Integrated Programme examinations, and was awarded Top in English in my cohort in both Secondary 2 and Secondary 4. I am able to provide my own notes that I have used myself to achieve top grades, as well as past year papers. I would also love to go through any schoolwork or assignments upon request :-)

"Vivian (10903) is a patient and could communicate well with my son. Although she has just started to give tuition to my son for not long, I foresee that my son's result will improve in his coming SA2. According to my son, she has taught him a few methods of solving his Maths problem sum which really help him. I have also requested extra lessons for my son during his exam period, she didn't even reject. I appreciate her coaching during this period and hope that she will continue to guide my son. Thank you!" - Parent, Ms Violet

I do not believe in spoon-feeding the students. I expect all students under my tutelage to be sensible enough to understand the importance of studying. So that the student will have a significant improvement, I always believe that both parties have to communicate to realise their common goal, and work hand in hand to achieve it. That is also the reason why I provide customised notes for the students only if they need and deserve them, on the basis that they are willing to learn (i.e. have an inquisitive mind) and work hard towards achieving better results.

During lessons, besides explaining concepts and assigning practice questions, I will spend time to prompt the student and guide him to the correct answer. In the process, I can discern the students method of thinking, and am able to correct it if there are any misconceptions. His brain will be stimulated and exercised which will allow him to grasp the concept more clearly. For example, if a student can't visualise 3D models, i'll do paper models to let him/her to visualise and get a better knowledge of how to do 3D trigonometry questions.

            As a Good Tutor
Interest in learning is vital to do well at school. My teaching would encourage the students to think broadly and aim to develop in them a love for learning. This would not only improve their grades but expand their ability to learn what is being taught in school.

I can start immediate and am a very patient, creative and dedicated tutor when it comes to tutoring. I hope to give my best to my student and help her or him as much as I can from my side.
            Rapport Building
I believe communication is the key to build a good rapport with both students and parents. It is important to understand what parents want from us and how to execute the idea. Good communication also ensures that students have the confidence to speak up to tutors and ask questions without fear. Hence, communication ensures that there is a good relationship between all parties.
            Keeping Up with Curriculum
I will always ask my student what she learned in school and if she could cope or not. If the pace is too fast, I will teach at a speed where it is not too slow nor too fast to ensure that student understands the content well.
Moreover, I will also follow the latest MOE syllabus based on student's level.
            As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor, I believe adaptability is the first priority as it ensures that I am flexible and can adjust accordingly. Secondly, openness is another quality which shows that tutors are open to any questions asked by students and is able to guide them on the right path. Moreover, I also believe patience is always the key because; if the student is slow in adapting, we should be the ones who should be patient and guide them in ways they tend to understand.
In addition, I believe motivation plays another key role as we should not just go for classes and teach them the content and knowledge. Together with these qualities, motivation should also be given as it tends to help the students to be more confident and they will tend to have a keen interest to do well further.
