Rapport Building
Most of my students are weak in physics, and I tried to make them be able to see the impact and logic behind physical laws and principles. In my opinion, this is the most important factor as physics cannot be learned through pure mugging. This enhance the interest of the students, thus making them more enthusiastic studying the subject. With most students getting distinctions for their O' level and A' level, this further support my case.

For students weak in math, my aim is to make them feel comfortable with math. Many students have the misconception that math is something that they do not need in future or it's a 'dead' subject which don't require understanding, but every mathematical formula has a very 'easy-to-understand' principle behind. However, this is missing out in schools due to the "results in shortest time possible" approach. This has created a situation where many students, except for minority of the cohort do not understand, thus they are unable do the questions confidently.

Non-academic wise, I tend to do 'pep talk' with my students whenever I feel that they are losing sight of their goals and provide a listening ear for problems they face if they appeared to be bothered and they have no one to talk to. Ultimately, a student is still young and may face issues that they cannot resolve/figure out which will affect their focus.

In summary, my teaching goal is to make students learn and understand what they are learning like it is part of everyday life experience. Thus making them appreciate and feel comfortable with the subjects they are learning.

After going through their education, my ex students are still coming to me for advice etc and I have become family friends to quite a number of families due to the change the parents see in their child.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am constantly in contact with course mates from university who are teaching in various junior colleges and secondary schools. We exchange ideas and discuss about the lacking aspects in education in schools

MOE has provided up-to-date details of syllabus requirement for each subject and each level.
As a Good Tutor
It is always my aim to be a mentor and a friend to my student.

First, students are already learning under the stress in classrooms. It is not necessary to subject them to the same kind of stress during tuition. I tend to keep the lesson informal and encourage my students to interrupt and speak their thoughts whenever they deem necessary.

Second, it is important as a mentor that I enforce basic discipline like lecturing my students whenever they misbehave or consistently losing sight of what they need to do during tuition and after tuition.

Third, a tutor should point out that a student should study for the sake of learning what they do not know/are not familiar with instead of the goal of doing well for exams. It is important for them to understand that what they are learning is part of their life, visibly or invisibly and they should not study for the sake of exams which will often result in them forgetting' what they have 'learned'.

Lastly, it is vital that a tutor should be able to suggest about possible future specialization the student can pursue based on their capabilities, after all a tutor has spent more time interacting on a 1-to-1 basis with the student than any school teachers.

Rapport Building
Being a skilled communicator I am able to quickly gain the trust of children with my joyful personality. I am able to entice a student/child to fun learning to make it easier for them to understand and grasp the actual work.

I build a relationship with students to boost their confidence and never make them feel inferior. No student or child is wrong, it is an experience for them to learn. It is important for them to have confidence and in this their mentality will be focused to strive for excellence.

It is important for them to be in a conducive environment and trust and gain the respect of their tutors. I do not believe in stringent learning but open communication where the student/s feel comfortable when learning.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I keep myself updated with curriculum by knowing the Singapore Education system. I speak to the students and ask them about their tasks at hand and upcoming ones.

I read to better improve myself so that I am of service to helping students to excel.
As a Good Tutor
The basics of a good tutor is to understand his or her students strength and weakness. Studies is not all about just work but play as well and by interacting well with them; these gives the student/s a sense of interest when learning and comfort knowing that they are not going to be "wronged" when they make a mistake but "coached" to be better.

To Ace tutors ,

I wish to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to a tutor I have gotten to know and was taught by through Ace tutors. I want to commend Perin( Navinder ) for being such a dedicated and effective tutor. I appreciate the fact that she gives her fullest attention when teaching and would use suitable methods to improve my grasp of the English language. I must highlight those times when she go out of her way by assessing my compositions I sent through emails even though it is already late in the evening ! I'm Glad and really proud to say that those efforts had paid off well. My usual grade of C5 for English shot up to a grade B3 in the N levels ! Perin started teaching me only 2 months before the N levels and yet I could get the grade I have aimed for ! Without her help, I doubt I would be able to attain my goal for a B3 and hence I would like to commend her through this email. Thank you Ace tutors for giving me such a wonderful tutor !

To AceTutors:
I would like to recormend Teacher Perin for being such a dedicate and caring teacher. We appreciate her teaching with various aspects to improve my son english from C5to B3 in 2017 O level. We are really thankful and glad that her efforts had been paid off.My son was very stressful in mid 2017 due to triple science course he was taking. However thanks to the kind and caring nature of teacher Perin ,my son was able to pull through this tough journey.

Tuition/Teaching Experience
I am a full-time English Teacher in an International School in Singapore. This has been the case for the last 10 years. Prior to that, I was a journalist in the local media scene and had also taught in in a bilingual academy in Suzhou, China before joining the media.

As for tutoring, I have been conducting lessons in Singapore since 2006, while still with the media. The realization that I so thoroughly enjoyed teaching spurred me on to my current position. My focus is English for all levels and Mathematics up to Secondary four. For the secondary syllabus, I specialize in Elementary Mathematics.

I have seen students from 8 years of age right up till 19 years of age; many of whom are under my guidance, or have become good friends upon graduating.

Rapport Building
I view my students as vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge. In my opinion, this has to be supported with enforcing a good value system. As a tutor, it is not just about teaching the content from the syllabus. While of course grades are of utmost important, understanding concepts and the realization of what a good education does are equally pivotal.

To back this claim, I have been blessed with many students who will be more than willing to provide supporting documentation to quantify this claim. I also adopt a mentoring approach during my group lessons, during which the students with a better ability assist the ones who are weaker. The once weaker students, upon having demonstrated substantial improvement emulate this system thereafter. This, in my opinion, build empathy and confidence.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As I am currently a teacher, I am constantly updated on changes in the curriculum and do communicate this to the students. When you build an adaptive student, seldom are they affected by curriculum changes.
As a Good Tutor
Love what you do, appreciate differences and always be present in the moment. A good tutor does not end the class when the time is up. He/She is one who cares for and caters to the holistic knowledge and character development of the child under his/ her charge.

Committed tutor since 2011, I ensure student success with personalized guidance, fostering a love for learning and achieving academic excellence.
    Rapport Building
Building a strong rapport with students is a foundational element of my tutoring approach. Since commencing my journey as a tutor in 2011, I have consistently prioritized the development of positive and meaningful connections with those I mentor.

One key aspect of rapport building is the recognition of each student's unique qualities, learning styles, and preferences. Understanding and appreciating these individual differences enable me to tailor my teaching methods to suit their specific needs. This personalized approach creates a more effective and enjoyable learning experience, fostering a sense of trust and understanding.

Open communication is at the core of establishing rapport. I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, asking questions, and seeking clarification. By actively listening and responding with empathy, I aim to nurture a supportive atmosphere that encourages students to actively engage in the learning process.

Consistency is another vital component. Regular and predictable interactions help build familiarity and trust. Whether through scheduled sessions, timely feedback, or informal check-ins, I maintain a consistent presence to reinforce the connection and demonstrate my commitment to their academic progress.

Beyond academics, I take a genuine interest in students' lives and aspirations. Understanding their interests, goals, and challenges allows me to relate the subject matter to their personal experiences, making it more relevant and relatable. This holistic approach demonstrates my investment in their overall well-being and development.

Integrating humor and enthusiasm into the learning environment contributes to rapport building. A positive and lighthearted atmosphere not only makes the sessions more enjoyable but also creates a connection based on shared experiences and mutual enjoyment of the learning process.

Incorporating real-world examples and practical applications is a strategy I use to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and everyday life. This not only enhances understanding but also demonstrates the practical relevance of the subjects we explore together, further strengthening the connection between academic content and the students' lived experiences.

Consistent and constructive feedback is an integral part of rapport building. I provide timely and specific feedback that acknowledges achievements and offers guidance for improvement. This transparent communication not only keeps students informed about their progress but also reinforces a collaborative relationship where they are active participants in their own learning journey.

I recognize the importance of adaptability in rapport building. As students evolve, so do their needs and preferences. Being flexible and responsive to these changes ensures that the rapport remains strong and relevant, adapting to the shifting dynamics of the student-tutor relationship.

In summary, my approach to rapport building is rooted in understanding, communication, consistency, genuine interest, positivity, and adaptability. By prioritizing the development of strong connections with students, I aim to create a supportive and empowering learning environment where they feel valued, understood, and inspired to achieve their academic goals.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
Adaptable tutor since 2011, I stay current with the latest syllabuse, ensuring students receive relevant and effective guidance for academic excellence.
    As a Good Tutor
Being a good tutor is a multifaceted commitment that extends beyond simply imparting knowledge. Since the inception of my tutoring journey in 2011, I have strived to embody the qualities and practices that define an effective and compassionate educator.

First and foremost, a good tutor understands that each student is unique. Tailoring my approach to the individual needs, learning styles, and goals of each student is a cornerstone of my tutoring philosophy. By recognizing and respecting these differences, I create a personalized and adaptive learning environment where students can thrive.

Building a strong rapport with my students is another integral aspect of my tutoring practice. Establishing a positive and supportive connection fosters trust and encourages open communication. This rapport not only enhances the learning experience but also creates a safe space where students feel comfortable asking questions, expressing concerns, and actively participating in their education.

One of my guiding principles is to instill a love for learning. Beyond facilitating subject comprehension, I aim to ignite curiosity and passion in my students. I believe that fostering an intrinsic motivation to learn empowers students to take ownership of their education and pursue knowledge beyond the confines of our tutoring sessions.

Effective communication is paramount in the tutor-student relationship. I ensure that instructions are clear, concepts are explained thoroughly, and feedback is constructive. Regular check-ins and feedback sessions provide students with a roadmap for improvement while highlighting their achievements, promoting a growth mindset.

As a good tutor, I am committed to creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. I incorporate diverse teaching methods, educational technologies, and real-world examples to make the material relevant and interesting. This approach not only enhances understanding but also encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Timely feedback to both students and parents is a practice I rigorously uphold. Clear and constructive feedback is essential for continuous improvement. It keeps students informed about their progress, strengths, and areas for development, while also involving parents in the educational journey. This collaborative approach ensures a holistic support system for the student.

Adaptability is a quality I value highly. Recognizing that educational needs evolve, I stay abreast of curriculum changes, educational trends, and advancements in teaching methodologies. This proactive approach enables me to adjust my strategies and materials to align with the current academic landscape.

Above all, being a good tutor requires genuine care for the well-being and success of each student. I celebrate their accomplishments, provide encouragement during challenges, and serve as a mentor in their academic journey. By combining expertise with empathy, I aspire to not only help students excel academically but also contribute to their overall growth and development as individuals.

        Rapport Building
Most of my friends tell me that I am very friendly and understanding as a person and I interact well with others because of these traits. I personally feel that I am pretty empathetic and meticulous when doing work, as well as when teaching students.

As for rapport building with the tutees, generally, I prefer to use the first session to get to understand the child's needs and struggles with their academic studies, as well as the areas they may be weaker in, also to get a rough gauge on how to best engage the child.

I would also consult the parents in terms of certain needs the child has, or teaching methods he/she prefers as well as how he or she best learns.

It will probably take a few sessions for the child and tutor to warm up to each other, as well as build a certain level of trust between tutor and tutee. This will most likely involve asking the child some personal questions, simple ones being their CCAs, outside interests, favourite subjects, what they enjoy with their families and friends on weekends etc so as to get to know the child more personally if they are open to it. This is to foster a certain level of trust and closeness between tutor and tutee to ensure a smoother tuition experience for everyone.
        Keeping Up with Curriculum
Primary School curriculum is generally very manageable and easily tackled since they mostly involve basic math, science, and for languages, mostly involve basic grammar and simple vocabulary.
For secondary school, I am a JC graduate, so secondary school knowledge for subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, and writing of english essays are still relatively fresh to me. Before teaching any students, I will read through the syllabus document for the relevant subjects and update myself on the relevant areas which I am not familiar with or are new.
For JC, I retook A levels last year, so the memory of the subjects I took are also fresh. Similarly, using the syllabus documents to check for updates regarding the curriculum is also vital.
        As a Good Tutor
A good tutor must first and foremost be empathetic enough to understand that each and every tutee is unique and that they have different ways of learning and interacting with a tutor. A good tutor should be able to pick up on what actions enable the child to be more receptive to learning and capitalize on that to ensure that they have a fruitful time during tuition.

A good tutor must also be attentive to when students are stressed or tired and adjust the pace of teaching according to their fatigue levels. For instance, upper secondary school students more prone to staying up late and paying less attention during tuition usually start yawning or their attention drifts elsewhere during tuition. It is important to give such students breaks for a short power nap or wash their faces before continuing the session to ensure that their time is not wasted and to ensure that their energy is not further wasted.

A good tutor should always maintain suitable boundaries and respect both the tutee and their parents. Apart from keeping a close and harmonious relationship with the tutees and their parents, a good tutor must always keep in mind that any personal questions should directly contribute to the tutee’s learning and not infringe upon another’s privacy, unless provided by the tutees or their parents as a precaution.
