As I am a full time school teacher, I am only able to take students in the afternoon after school. May change the time occasionally based on school's need for now.
Rapport Building
Building a good relationship with them is very important. Student must be able to feel safe and be able to trust the teacher before they can learn from the teacher. It is important to show students that you respect them and you hear them so that they know that you truly care for them. Also, the use of a reward system is important. Breaking a big task into smaller achievable goals and giving them corresponding rewards (e.g. verbal, written or even a small gift) are ways to build a students' confidence and desire to learn.

It is important to keep parents informed of their children's progress. The use of a log book is a systematic way of communicating things e.g. homework to them. For more pressing issue, smsing or calling would be more effective. Talking face to face would also be a quick way to gain trust. It is very important to explain my actions to parents. As long as parents understand that my interest is always for the betterment of the child, most of the time parents would co-operate.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As a school teacher, I would get first hand information on any change of curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
I would always have my students' interest in mind. Arousing the child's interest in the subject, providing help to the child in his/her school work based on the child's ability, providing extra work to stretch the child's ability are the basic qualities of a good tutor.

I have went through teaching experiences in school, such as tutoring weaker students and tutoring friends with difficult subjects for their GCE 'O' levels. I am patient and keep the session as informal and fun as possible, no matter how mundane the subject may be. I have a very keen interest in music and firmly believe that music should not be deprived from those who wants to learn music.

I will be able to start my tuitions immediately and usually on a weekend, but weekdays are ok as well as long as they are on an evening.
            Rapport Building
I normally keep the working relationship between myself and students, as well as their family, as jovial as possible, but still maintaining the same goal of giving quality tutoring and guidance.
            Keeping Up with Curriculum
I would usually keep up with curriculum by referring to the MOE given guidelines every year and then modifying my curriculum now and then. I would find out the student's weak points and work from there before going on to the other topics.
            As a Good Tutor
I feel that the qualities of a good tutor is whether the tutor is able to think in the hearts of the student and the student's family. There is no point in having unnecessary tuition if the student is doing well, but there is definitely a need for tuition when there are weak spots in the student's understanding, and that is where tutors come into play. A good tutor I feel must be able to recognise this fact and instead of overburdening the student with tuition and work, the tutor should think for the heart of the student and administer care accordingly.

I started giving tuition at a voluntary basis when I was in JC Year 1. I have been exposed to teach different types of students ranging from primary school to upper secondary school students. Hence, I am confident that students under me are not only able to work well with me, but are also willing to push themselves further to achieve better grades. Furthermore, I believe in consistent work. I will usually ask my students to keep a notebook to record their learning points after every lesson. This notebook will allow them to take note of the key points learnt in the lesson, and for me to track my students' progress in an orderly manner.

For their SA2, most of them scored above average with all 6 of them improving greatly as compared to their previous paper. 2 of my students have gotten 90 and above for their Eng and Maths. Having being a tutor for 2 years now, I believe that no one student cannot be taught. We just have to use the right method to communicate with them

                    Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start immediately and continue lessons for as long as required. I prefer to conduct my lessons on Saturday or Sunday mornings and, if absolutely necessary, weekdays after-school hours (around 7pm). I am able to adhere to a very strict schedule, or provide more flexible arrangements (last minute postponements made half an hour before the lesson is acceptable).
                    Rapport Building
I always ask to see a new student's past test papers and assignments on the first day of the tuition. This allows me to get to know your child's abilities and potential where the subject is concerned. I also like to understand your child's study habits at home and in school, and his/her personal concerns about the subject. I like to find out what the parent expects of my tutelage (e.g. do you expect monthly updates about how your child is doing? Would you and/or your child prefer fixed or flexible tuition dates?)
                    Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am currently teaching Biology at a local Junior College. I am highly familiar with the curricular pace of the subject, as well as other academic commitments your child has (e.g. Project Work cycle, Mother Tongue intensive training periods, and the CCA commitments). My school policy mandates that all teachers participate in Professional Development meetings in which we share with each other pedagogical know-how and common misconceptions students have with the various topics.
                    As a Good Tutor
Good tutor pays attention to the academic and emotional needs of the student. Students need to be challenged, and feel that they are successful in accomplishing these difficult tasks. As such, good tutors must be equipped with the skill of creating novel questions and tasks that are pitched to the right difficulty according to the student's level of competency.

Each student is different in what aspect they need help in (e.g. techniques for memorizing details, grasping new concepts, organizing different concepts into a holistic framework, analyzing the question, applying concepts to tackle specific questions, examination tricks and techniques). Good tutors must be able to provide training for each and every one of these aspects and be astute in judging which aspects to focus on for a particular student.
