Commitment / Other Details
As I am a full time school teacher, I am only able to take students in the afternoon after school. May change the time occasionally based on school's need for now.
Rapport Building
Building a good relationship with them is very important. Student must be able to feel safe and be able to trust the teacher before they can learn from the teacher. It is important to show students that you respect them and you hear them so that they know that you truly care for them. Also, the use of a reward system is important. Breaking a big task into smaller achievable goals and giving them corresponding rewards (e.g. verbal, written or even a small gift) are ways to build a students' confidence and desire to learn.
It is important to keep parents informed of their children's progress. The use of a log book is a systematic way of communicating things e.g. homework to them. For more pressing issue, smsing or calling would be more effective. Talking face to face would also be a quick way to gain trust. It is very important to explain my actions to parents. As long as parents understand that my interest is always for the betterment of the child, most of the time parents would co-operate.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As a school teacher, I would get first hand information on any change of curriculum.
As a Good Tutor
I would always have my students' interest in mind. Arousing the child's interest in the subject, providing help to the child in his/her school work based on the child's ability, providing extra work to stretch the child's ability are the basic qualities of a good tutor.
