Commitment / Other Details: I am looking to start in 2016, on a part time basis. Hence I am looking for a small number of students to start off and if my schedule allows, i am willing to take on more students. I am comfortable teaching primary school students in all subjects except Chinese.

Rapport Building: I speak to the parents as well as the student (separately) to find out a little more about their respective concerns and expectations about the tuition. I like to give feedback to the parent about the child's progress periodically.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I am quite familiar with the primary school curriculum as my kids have/are going through the same levels. For secondary school subjects, I refer to the MOE website for current curriculum.

As a Good Tutor: A tutor should be patient and resourceful and is able to explain in a way that the student is able to understand (taking into account student's learning styles).

Tuition/Teaching Experience: Helping others has always been my passion, and as such I have taught both children and youth aged between 7- 16 on a volunteer-basis in Cambodia. As for paid stints, I've had three students so far as that is the maximum capacity I can take while doing my day-time job well. Of these, one was a Primary 2 boy. I was able to improve his grade from an F to a C within 2 months. The other two were Secondary 3 girls whom I taught A/E Maths. The girls have just completed their O Levels this year, and we shall have to wait for their final results come January. Meanwhile, they have managed to bring their Grades up from E to B for their Preliminaries.

As a Good Tutor: I am confident in my ability to teach. Having completed my University Education, I know exactly how it's like to be a student and feel overwhelmed with massive amounts of information to absorb. My philosophy as your tutor or your child's tutor is simple. I don't want to teach what is just on paper. I believe that as a student, the most important skill one can learn is to learn HOW TO LEARN. If you can master this skill and condense information well, your life as a student will be smooth-sailing. You will no longer merely memorize information and reproduce them during exams. Rather, you will be able to extract yourself from the content you are learning, and make studying both a meaningful and exciting journey. I pride myself on genuinely caring for my students and teaching them in ways that they best grasp informtation well. My wish for them is that they develop a love, hunger, excitement and vigor for learning new things (even outside the classroom!). If I succeed in this, for me, it would be the most satisfying during my stint as their tutor.

On top of that, I am also a student correspondent reporter for 早报, showing my competency in writing Chinese, and the ability to teach students to write good Chinese compositions.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Since I am invited by MOE for Chinese related events and I also write articles which are posted on newspapers, I am more able to be in touch with the whole Chinese media and education industry, which keeps me updated for all new and upcoming events. I also check the MOE website frequently in case of any changes to the syllabus.

As a Good Tutor: I am patient and I have strong passion for Chinese, which makes it easy for me to motivate my students to develop love for the subject as well. Loving the subject is the key to improvement in results and beyond, hence my students will eventually be good at Chinese and not just simply scoring the papers during examinations.
Also, since I am patient, I am willing and able to spend more time to explain for a few more times to make sure that my student understands and remembers what I have to teach. This makes it easier for my student to study and revise for the exams.
Finally, I am strong at Chinese (I am invited by MOE to do passage reading and I write articles that are posted on newspaper), showing that I can write and speak good Chinese. The MOE syllabus does not only require students to write good Chinese but also to speak good Chinese, which I am capable of doing it myself, showing that I have the ability to teach students to be good speakers and brilliant writers.
