I generally conduct goal setting and reviews to ensure that students are aware of what they want to achieve and how they can get to their goal. I also make the student aware that what they are learning is not something that is limited purely to academics and that there are real world applications to what they are learning.

As a Good Tutor
I think that a good tutor is not someone who is permanent fixture. A good tutor should ultimately provide a student with the tools and skills that they need to learn things by themselves. Building subject matter knowledge is important, but ensuring that a student is capable of learning on their own is just as important.

          I generally am of amiable nature, and like to find out more about my student before trying to teach them. Each student learns differently and I intend to find out how they learn best before I try any method of teaching. I also like to make sure they enjoy the subject they are studying and ensure that the student comes out of my lessons with an actual understanding as opposed to mere memorization just to pass a test/exam.
          Keeping Up with Curriculum
          I will own the necessary and most updated versions of each subjects textbooks to ensure I am fully immersed in the student's current curriculum. I also still possess my University textbooks which provide a great source of self-revision.
          As a Good Tutor
          Building a good/friendly relationship with students is imperative to me. From experience, I learn better from teachers who are easy to approach.
          Understanding how each student learns is also important as one method of teaching may not work on every student.
          Lastly, but extremely importantly, patience is key. Every student learns at their own pace and I intend to work according to them.

              For students who wants to improve their English I would always encourage them to read more. Reading not only helps the student in their speaking and reading ability, it also aids in their creativity.

              I believe that only when the students figure out the answers on their own, they will actually learn and remember. Hence, I only guide my students to the right answer. I will always adapt my teaching to the student's ability and parents can rest assure that I will provide them with an update on their child's progress after every lesson. I prepare materials for the student based on the topic thier school is currently teaching as well as the student's weak areas.

              I was also an assitant teacher at Kumon before so I am experienced in knowing how to spot the the areas that a student is weak at.

                I usually spend 5 to 10 mins to talk to the parents and also suggest ways to help them handle their kids. I also warm up with students to tell them who I am and why am I here. I also use stickers to reward the students and let them know how can they get their stickers. For children I will use alot of games in learning a subject and also handson if for science. I will also introduce singing and dancing for the children.

                I read up alot in bookstores whenever I can. I also use internet to keep me updated on what is the trend in today's school. I also use new materials to help students. Like learning can be very interesting instead of just writing and reading. There are many ways to learn through using different games.

                To be a good tutor, one have to consistently improve oneself through coaching and reading. I also think that as a good tutor I have to keep brainstorming for new ideas to keep the class interesting. Besides games, coaching ways are also important especially when getting the students to behave well in class and do their homeworks. One also have to keep abreast of what's going on in the family in order to help the students and the parents. I have learned coaching and parenting skills before which helped alot in my tutor life.
