We will do progress tracking and a review of methods consistently- what worked, what did not work, how to move ahead from here etc through verbal reflections and tests that focus on correcting one's mistakes and perfecting new skills/concepts learnt.
    As a Good Tutor
I truly believe in the effectiveness of working hard and smart to excel in academics. This will be my core motivation as a tutor- to maximise the potential of whomever I'm teaching and bring him/her to the furthest they can go. I also believe that it's extremely important to continuously work on one's weakness while moving ahead, rather than going full speed ahead and leaving many gaps unaddressed which will only culminate into a bigger issue in the future.

Currently studying at NUS Double Degree Mathematics and Computer Science. Able to start now during December hols to whole of next year or beyond. Ready for long term commitment.
            Rapport Building
It is my commitment to establish friendly relationship with both students and parents so that students will be receptive to my teaching and also parents can be actively involved in aiding their child in their education and be updated about their progress.
            Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have prior experience teaching primary school (P6-P5) last year so I am pretty familiar with the content being taught. As for JC or secondary syllabus, these are available online on MOE website. Thus, I am able to familiarise myself with the curriculum and make sure that the content I teach are relevant to students.
            As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor, it is important to keep good rapport with students and parents. Parents play an important role in a child's education and it is important to keep them constantly updated. I often make sure that I highlight to parents what I have covered in class and what the child's difficulties and strengths are in the subject.
A key diference between group tuition and personal tutor is that a tutor can be more sensitive to the weaknesses and strengths of the student, and be better able to target these weaknesses and build on the strengths. For instance, I analyse every class assignment or worksheets done by the child and will compile common mistakes that the child makes. Usually, a pattern will emerge from this and I will tell the child where his mistakes lie and help him correct and improve on them.
A tutor's job is not only to teach a child, but she must also encourage and motivate the child. For many of my previous lessons taught, I often encourage my students with gifts if they do well and also try to connect to them personally (instead of being a very distant and purely authorative teacherm I hope to be a friendly figure they can approach). This motivates them intrinsically to work hard and obtain progress more effectively.

            Rapport Building
Teacher-student relationships are akin to the relationship between a doctor and his patients. Like doctors, teachers must be able to diagnose the cognitive obstructions that affect the student, and is able to offer the correct remedy for it. In order to do that, diagnosis must take into account factors that lie beyond the teaching subject and must consider factors such as student motivation, natural learning potential, metacognitive abilities, studying habits, and cognitive biases. All this require a genuine relationship between teacher and student beyond the subject matter assigned. Furthermore, like the relationship between a doctor and his patients, beyond designing a highly personalised academic remedy, teaching is a position of trust, requiring sincerity and integrity. This means that good rapport is established on the virtues of the teacher, and his willingness to understand his student as a unique individual having different motivations, different potential, different habits of mind, and different approaches towards studying. And since such matters are intricately related to the support given by parents, feedback will be given to parents, communicated via e-mail, upon the completion of every session.
            Keeping Up with Curriculum
As an experienced teacher of mathematics and science in a top neighbourhood school, I have been assigned the duty of setting papers at different levels, and such a task necessitates a clear understanding of the curriculum. Furthermore, I have also attended workshops organised by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) where curriculum objectives and marking rubrics designed by Cambridge were clarified. Apart from that, I have also coached students for Mathematics Olympiad, in particular, the Singapore and Asian Mathematics Olympiad (SASMO) in 2016 and 2017. All this has helped me gain a sound understanding of the Math and Science curriculum.

The current curriculum is geared towards the application of concepts and skills to solve real world problems. This means that a drilling approach, though fundamental, may only be cursory to a student's success. Furthermore, the curriculum is buttressed in the Ministry's framework for "21st Century Competencies" aimed at developing critical and inventive thinking, communication and information processing skills and civic literacy. A more holistic approach is imperative, a thing that I hope to offer.
            As a Good Tutor
Above all, a good tutor must be sincere in helping the student attain success in learning. In other words, he cannot make financial matters his main motivation, although he must be fairly compensated financially to undertake his responsibilities properly. This sincerity must be accompanied with other personal qualities and virtues, such as certitude and confidence in the teaching subject and professional decorum, living up to the expectations of a good teacher.

Apart from that, a good tutor must also possess moral integrity because tutoring is a position of trust and that he must be a good role model to his student. He must also possess within himself the virtue of patience and a sympathetic attitude towards his student, treating them with love and kindness that a parent would give.

Lastly, a good tutor should also possess perspicacity and mastery of content knowledge for the teaching subject. He must acquire an understanding beyond the literal meaning of the text. This means that he must possess a good understanding of the overarching objectives of the subject matter as well as how it is linked to future applications in various careers. However, this mastery must be guided by the virtue of humility and openness to learn from feedback from any source.

While I may not have experience in tutoring, I am the go-to person for my peers in the polytechnics doing their English Creative Writing modules and obtained a distinction for their assignments.

              As a Good Tutor
As a student who has had many tutors, the only tutor that made a difference in my results was the person who got to know the type of person I am and alter his teaching style to suit my learning palate. I believe it is important to be very patient and to never let a child feel incompetent.
