Currently studying at NUS Double Degree Mathematics and Computer Science. Able to start now during December hols to whole of next year or beyond. Ready for long term commitment.
Rapport Building
It is my commitment to establish friendly relationship with both students and parents so that students will be receptive to my teaching and also parents can be actively involved in aiding their child in their education and be updated about their progress.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have prior experience teaching primary school (P6-P5) last year so I am pretty familiar with the content being taught. As for JC or secondary syllabus, these are available online on MOE website. Thus, I am able to familiarise myself with the curriculum and make sure that the content I teach are relevant to students.
As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor, it is important to keep good rapport with students and parents. Parents play an important role in a child's education and it is important to keep them constantly updated. I often make sure that I highlight to parents what I have covered in class and what the child's difficulties and strengths are in the subject.
A key diference between group tuition and personal tutor is that a tutor can be more sensitive to the weaknesses and strengths of the student, and be better able to target these weaknesses and build on the strengths. For instance, I analyse every class assignment or worksheets done by the child and will compile common mistakes that the child makes. Usually, a pattern will emerge from this and I will tell the child where his mistakes lie and help him correct and improve on them.
A tutor's job is not only to teach a child, but she must also encourage and motivate the child. For many of my previous lessons taught, I often encourage my students with gifts if they do well and also try to connect to them personally (instead of being a very distant and purely authorative teacherm I hope to be a friendly figure they can approach). This motivates them intrinsically to work hard and obtain progress more effectively.
