Rapport Building: I make it a point to have a continuing dialogue with the student over his/her progress and in identifying areas for improvement although in an encouraging and motivating manner--it's important to never let a student feel discouraged. With either solo or group tuition, I design lessons that connect to students' interests. Keeping Up with Curriculum: I am an avid reader of literature and of literary criticism and also keep abreast of literary ad cultural happenings in Singapore. As a Good Tutor: The most important qualities of a tutor are compassion and sensitivity to students' feelings and needs. It's important to me that a student must trust me and have confidence in me rather than fear me. The tutor's authority must come from demonstrating subject knowledge and effective teaching, not from being stern and forbidding. As a literature teacher, I have three major education goals--to use Literature to teach students to think about life and society, to teach them the larger skill of analyzing texts, not just literature but anything from smses to spoken language, press reports and mass media texts, and most importantly, to give them the knowledge and develop the reading and writing skills needed to get top grades in Literature.

Teaching lower primary school student can be challenging as they get very distracted very easily. The teaching method I used is to give rewards to motivate them to learn. Example: Giving english spelling and rewards them with a sticker if they get full mark. If they fail in the spelling, I will tend to encourage them to do better next time. Commitment / Other Details: I would be able to visit twice a week and convenient time slots would include 8 pm or after on weekdays and 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday and after 3 pm on Sunday. This is based on the assumption that each class will last about an hour and a half to two.

Rapport Building: On my first two visits, I would encourage the students to open up, both academically and emotionally. Though academic assessment, I would be able to target their weak areas and implement productive measures to strengthen these spots. If they need emotional backing, I would be more than happy to sustain them. I am a true believer of the ideology that only if you are free from burdens would you be able to fuse yourself with academic related activities. From my third trip, after breaking the ice, we will get in the act and persevere towards excellence. As far as parents are concerned, I will afford them with biweekly reports on the student's performance and assert appreciable solutions to fix the weak areas.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: The core of the curriculum, especially in technical subjects like Maths and Physics, remains the same. For other improvisations, I seek the help of my relatives and friends, who have been trained in NIE and are working as teachers and the internet. Of course, not forgetting to mention that I will carefully look through the curriculum myself once before seeking their help.
