As a Good Tutor: I personally think that having a school teacher having to teach more than 30+ students in a class might be able to handle the student's doubts and needs. Therefore, by having a 1 to 1 tuition would definitely help to clarify the child's problems and doubts. Beside this, a private tutor might also helps to actually helps the student to actually develop an interest in tuition. Personally for me, I have been quite through quite a few tuition during my secondary school days. The tutors indeed help me develop an interest which help me improve my result.

I definitely enjoy teaching ! Ever since the start of polytechnic, I had always wanted to be a lecturer. Moreover, when i explained the concept of some modules to my classmates, I'm glad that they actually understand what I have explained to them which actually makes me have a sense of accomplishment.

Personally, success as a teacher is when I become redundant to my students. Given the amount of information out there, the role of the teacher is no longer that of an information/knowledge disseminator. Rather, the teacher has got to understand the thinking process of the learner and present the information in the manner which will spark curiosity in the learner.

Commitment / Other Details: The one thing which is lacking in Singaporean students is the hunger for knowledge and it is no wonder why given the way subjects have been taught. Essentially, a good teacher is someone who inspires learning and I expect my students to be able to become independent and reflective learners one day.

The new social studies syllabus is interesting because it gives students an opportunity to express their personal opinions on a wide range of topics. Regrettably, most students (and teachers) are uncomfortable with this because they do not read widely enough. I am fortunate to be placed in a prime position because of the introduction of the new SS syllabus and my training in Political Science and Sociology in NUS.

Social studies draws heavily on these two disciplines and that is why I am confident of delivering the kind of knowledge and thinking skills required by the new syllabus.

I like to teach history using the decontextualized approach to help the students appreciate the subject. This approach has the benefit of letting the students interact with the concepts alone without having to be burdened with historical knowledge. They will also start to see how they can apply what they have learned to their lives. Only after the students have grasped the historical concepts and skills will I recontextualize it for them and this makes learning history a breeze.
