communicate. start off with knowing the child as a person which can be as mundane things, interests, dislikes. Understanding how each child learns in his/her ways where the child is more attuned. i keep parents informed of progress and also to be realistic in setting the learning plans for both the parents' and child's expectations. i usually start off lesson with sharing my day's activities and asked about the child's as well.
