    I will update parents at least a day before the session a summary of what I will be teaching their child. Through this, parents are able to convey to me what do they want me to include in my upcoming session. This ensures that every session I have with their child is effective. If the child is slightly older I would forward this session summary to him or her too, to ensure that he or she can be prepared for the upcoming sessions. It would also allow him or her to question any doubts he or she come across in school.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
    Before I take on an assignment I look at the SEAB syllabus to ensure that my teaching content is relevant and highly effective. Knowing SEAB syllabus clearly will allow me to come up with an effective topic summary for my student to allow them to study more easily. I will also provide them with tips about how I studied in my secondary and primary school days that allowed me to ace the exams. I would encourage my students to WhatsApp me any doubts whenever they arise. Thus I can be prepared on the day of the tutoring session so that the time is effectively and efficiently spent.
    As a Good Tutor
    I love children thus I do enjoy interacting with children younger or around my age. As a student, I memorise the materials using a creative way such as associating terms with stories. As a tutor, I will help them to understand the concepts, then memorise concepts by associating the concepts with stories. This will ensure that they will have a long term memory of the concepts thus more likely to study more easily and able to ace the exams. As a tutor, I hope to be like a smart friend to my students. One that will provide them with the knowledge they need to ace the exams and one that they will enjoy studying with. I hope to inspire my students to learn with passion and hopefully enjoy studying. If not at the minimum, will not hate studying.

          Communication is key to a successful relationship with my students and their parents. Any problems and difficulties the student face is usually best understood my their parents. It is my first priority to establish a good relationship with the parent or guardian and to ask how their child is doing in school - is the student motivated or finds the subject boring, is the student putting in the effort or cannot be bothered. The rationale for tuition must also be a healthy one.
          Of course it is not always the case that the parents are aware of their child's attitude towards learning, in this case, I will have to get to know the student's strengths and weaknesses, their interests and passions. Being approachable and nice to my students is essential to create an open environment where ideas and feelings are shared, and where students have the opportunity to find joy in learning. While exams can be stressful and daunting, studying and learning does not have to be.
          Keeping Up with Curriculum
          As a student of the education system not too long ago, I can still remember the curriculum very well. More importantly, I can relate to the struggles and difficulties these students face on a daily bases. The frustration of not being good at a subject and not coping with the rest of the class. Feeling left out of class discussions because the more knowledgeable peers ask better questions. The pressure of doing well in an examination setting can be crushing.
          The curriculum changes over time and I have spoken to parents and school teachers about the subjects. The MOE curriculum is also posted online.
          As a Good Tutor
          As a good tutor, one has to be able to create an environment that facilities learning as much as possible. The problem with such a statement is that different students are different in many sense of the word. Having a one size fit all solution or a single method of teaching is simply not adequate. For example some students require more time than others to grasp a concept and that's absolutely normal.
          That being said, what I think is important fundamentally is to be able to develop good relationships with students and parents. Always be humble and compassionate towards the students. Never look down on another student or in fact anyone. Have a complete understanding of the subjects and adapt to new curriculum, what works for you may not work for someone else. Be very patient and speak clearly. Get the student interested in the subject and have them develop good habits in their work.

              I had always been close to my students when I was teaching at Serangoon JC. I was the teacher in charge of the Students' Council so I interact a lot with them. I enjoy working with them, listening to them and being their 'friend'. Similarly as a private tutor, I will get to know both the student and the parents to understand their needs and issues with the subject. Importantly for me there must be 2-way communications between us.

              I left the teaching profession to go into the private sector and have worked in varied industries such as hospitality, travel, tourism, events.

              As a trained teacher, I am familiar with the school system as well as the teaching methodologies. I still keep up with the current curriculum as well as the school system through the media.

                I am a patient, dedicated and a very organized tutor. As a tutor, I will try my best to firstly understand which aspect of the subject that my student is weak at and will use my best ability and past experience of how to allow my student to improve on his/her weak area. My teaching method has always been (assume class is 1.5 hours) will be using the first 40 minutes to go through what the teacher in school has taught him/her today and answer and clarify what my student does not understand or are unsure of how does the teacher gets the answer and also go through the homework. After which, I will give the student a 5 min break where the student will go for toilet break and rest his/her mind for awhile. As the remaining 45 minutes left, it will be where the student will on the spot do the assessment and exercises that I have specifically noted for the week itself to check on the students progress and see if him/her actually does understand the concepts and content well. During the last 45 minutes, I will also be beside the student and guide on them while they are doing their assessments/ exercises.

                Normally on the first week of lesson, I will recommend the parent to purchase a particular assessment book for the student.

                So far, my teaching method has been quite effective and even though I've just started teaching last year, but my student's grades has been seen improvement of by at least one grade.
