Commitment / Other Details
My Commitment and Style

I had taught in both Singapore schools, primary and secondary. From 2010-2011, I taught 'O'level Physics in a private school. I have just completed a year of teaching an autistic Secondary 4 student who is about to sit for his 'N' level exams. Through this experience, I am acquired more communication skill and patience.
Previously, I have also taught an ADHD P5 student. My other current student is an 'O' level student and I am starting to teach a student from New Zealand studying in an international school.I can commit to giving tuition for the next 3 years at least.

For teaching Physics, there are the Maths and the Facts sections. For the Facts sections, I make students remember definitions and explanation questions in point forms. Definitions can be broken into parts and memorised with understanding. I believe in explaining to students the facts before getting them to memorise.

As for the Maths portion in Physics and A and E Maths or Primary School Maths, I explain to my students how to interpret questions, break them down, highlight key facts. I also help them to learn how to integrate what they have learnt with what is in the questions. This helps them to gain problem-solving skills.

After that, I make my students do the same question. This is because students can understand how to solve a question but are still unable to independently solve the question. This is what I have found after years of study and tutoring.

After they solve the question on their own, I will repeat the problem-solving techniques and the basic facts and formulae they used. I have developed a systematic problem-solving technique which help students to solve both physics and maths questions.

I do not let my students do the so-called "Top Ten Schools" exam papers as the standard this distracts them from learning problem-solving skills. They end up memorising the answers with no understanding. This is bad learning as there is no real learning and answers memorised are irrelevant as questions can be changed by teachers year after year. Moreover, the questions they memorised seldom appear in their own school exams or national exams.

As for English, I make students read story-books and newspaper to learn good writing style, vocabularies and understanding of difficult passages. If their foundation is weak, I will have them do systematic English grammar-teaching books. The Taiwanese students I taught developed a passion in reading storybooks and within two years they achieve a breakthrough in their writing and understanding ability.
