I have more than 2 years experience teaching Primary 1 to Sec 4 students. I specialise in Chinese home tuition - 1 to 1 and small group and currently have a total of 26 students on hand.
I would spark the students' interest in the subject so that they are motivated to learn. I would always ensure that my students enjoy my lessons so that they are interested in listening to me. I would also get them their favourite food to reward them for paying attention, completing their work on time and scoring well for tests/exams in school. As most of my students really love to chat with me, I would remind them to complete their work before telling me about their day. So far, this has been going well as my students are always so excited to complete their work. They view me as a trusted adult to share their personal problems (eg: getting bullied in school, BGR, friendships, insomnia) with, and I would always provide them advices and help them get through tough times. The parents of my students gave feedback that their children love the way I teach. I have good interpersonal skills, great sense of humour and I am able to communicate well with my students and their parents. I make sure to do my part, follow through expectations so as to gain trust.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Out of all subjects that I am good in, I decided to specialise in Chinese Language and I train myself to be experienced in teaching this subject. I printed the MOE syllabus and read it from time to time so that I am consistently clear about MOE's curriculum planning. I also have the Chinese textbooks and activity books for all levels and I would read through all the pages before lessons to plan my teaching. I have completed many assessment books, past years' exam papers and online quizzes. This is for me to maintain and develop my own skills, knowledge and competence.
As a Good Tutor
I believe that in order for us to do well in something, we must have interest and passion. A good tutor should love their students, never stop learning and have the ability to handle challenging situations. I have strong passion in teaching, I love to inspire students who dislike studying and also listen to students who do not have a trusted adult to speak to. Most importantly, I constantly look for ways to be better. I take feedbacks seriously as they are good opportunities for myself to improve.
I have high level of patience hence I am able to handle students who need time to learn. I make sure my students are comfortable enough to ask questions whenever they are in doubt. For my younger students, I would play games with them to help them in their learning. I am friendly, understanding and approachable. With these qualities, I am able to work well with my students and their parents.
