Commitment / Other Details
I am currently a full-time tutor and am flexible with scheduling. I offer both in-person tuition for West-side students and online coaching for everywhere else. I am able to do hybrid as well.
Rapport Building
I am a strong believer in rapport building. The friendship and trust help me understand each student's unique pain points, challenges, and strengths and allows me to customize the targeted approach to leverage students' strengths and bridge competency gaps. Based on experience, content, and syllabus mastery is a small portion of achieving the target grades and it is important to delve deeper to understand each student as a whole person. Building a deep rapport also allows students to be comfortable in asking questions, even outside of tuition hours and discussion beyond the syllabus to establish a connection between the syllabus and applications in reality. I support students outside of the curriculum and am always willing to provide career and university selection guidance and a listening ear.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am up to date with the current syllabus and teach both H2 and H1 students. The range of students I meet from different schools and years allows me to pick up key trends across different schools and cohorts. I am a firm believer in using the SEAB Learning Outcomes as a reference for content mastery as well.
As a Good Tutor
It brings me joy when students turn to long-term friends after they graduate and make choices to join the biomedical or healthcare industry knowing I played a part in their growth. I am responsible in helping the student achieve their best outcome in Biology. I spend some time understanding the student's competency gaps, strengths and personality, on top of their study habits and external commitments. This allows me to strategize and plan for the best approach. I harness technology such as videos, teleconference, online resources to augment the lessons for in-depth understanding and use real-life models to demonstrate hard-to-grasp concepts such as DNA replication.
