I have been in the education line for over 10 years, both as a teacher as well as a private tutor. My students constantly exceed their own expectations, and you can be assured of the same too.

Rapport Building
This has never been an issue, even when I was teaching. Parents will come up to me during the Meet-The-Parents session, and they will exclaim that their child is constantly practicing mathematics, just because "they don't want to disappoint MrYeo"
I would like to meet up with the parents first, if possible, to further understand as well as to align our expectations so as to nuture the child to achieve their fullest potential. The ultimate goal is for the child to inculcate good studying habits, such that they will grow out of the need to have tuition.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
After I left MOE, I am keeping myself abreast with the local curriculum. This is further exacerbated as I started work in an EdTech startup, for maths too.
As a Good Tutor
The ability to access the student's metacognitive ability and find out the exact problems that the students is facing. The tutor will need to know if the student is fundamentally weak or conceptually weak.
