Commitment / Other Details
I will be able to start ASAP and commit until August of 2021 when I will enter Uni. If we do a group tuition we can hold it at my house in Serangoon.
Rapport Building
One of my favourite parts of being a tuition teacher is the fact that I am able to talk and connect to my students such that we are able to build a sense of trust. I occasionally like to ask my students about their lives in school like how they are coping with other subjects, their future plans and many other stuff after class. I feel that this helps us build a bond that will make the learning more enjoyable for the student as it is easier to learn from someone your are comfortable with. Many parents have told me that their child likes me as a tutor as they feel that they can connect with me. Hearing this truly makes me delighted. I think one of the reasons why I am able to connect with the students is because I am young and was in their positions only decade ago, thus I can understand what they are going through as well. To build rapport with the parents, I like to explain to them what I will be teaching and my plans for the long-term for their child such that they will be able to achieve their goals.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have connections in the teaching industry (MOE) and I occasionally meet-up with them. During these meetups I would usually ask them if there are any updates to the syllabus. One of these connections is actually my mother who is a math teacher currently. Also, I would do self-reading of the new syllabus by buying the latest assessment books and going through them.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor must be able to help his or her student learn and understand the subject and the fundamentals. He or She must be able to put himself in the students shoes and be able to explain such that the student can learn. He or she must also be patient but yet strict when required. I as a tutor work towards being a tutor like that.
