Rapport Building
For students I usually engage them in learning Chinese by telling cultural stories and playing racing games.
For parents I constantly share with them my observations of their children's improvements and area to work on.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am MOE teacher working in Primary school.School meeting is one of the precious sources of staying updated with the curriculum. And personally I read newspaper daily and pay special attention to those news related to education. Moreover I check on MOE official website and related websites such as iMTL portal frequently. It has become a habit of mine to keep myself informed with all the changes about Chinese curriculum and PSLE exam, so that I can make sure I teach the really important skills to my students and help them improve their results in the most useful way.
As a Good Tutor
Firstly, a good tutor must be very clear of the purpose why parents send their children for tuition, Secondly, a good tutor must get to know the student's foundation of the subject and why the subject is a weakness for this student and how to make it not so dreadful for this poor child. Thirdly, consistency is a very important factor influencing the child's learning. So a good tutor must keep track of the child's learning progress and repeating is also a necessary step to reinforce during each tutoring session. Lastly, good results or improvements shown in the results should be observed after a period of tutoring conducted.
