I have 12 months+ (2017-18) private tuition experience of elementary age children in Singapore, primarily my son who has dyslexia; I completed the full-time intensive CELTA at the British Council (Singapore) in Nov-Dec 2018. It was a 125 hour advanced practicum in general English, and I taught 4 Elementary and 4 Intermediate classes at British Council

As a Good Tutor
The CELTA method of lesson planning starts with the main aim of the lesson. I would then decide what lesson framework to follow. Once the most suitable approach for a skills (receptive or productive) lesson or a systems (grammar, lexis, functions) lesson has been chosen, I then decide what is the aim of each stage for that particular approach. The language must suit the context and the main content of the text should be presented as functional and situational language.
