Rapport Building
To establish a good rapport with students and parents alike, I believe patience and good communication skills work hand-in-hand with one another. As someone who is proficient in both the English and Chinese Language, I am confident in communicating my ideas clearly to my students. I am patient and willing to guide students through their thought process in solving questions. To illustrate, prompts and guides will be given to stimulate their thought process. I would offer strong emotional support and be encouraging at all times to remind students of their potential capabilities and make it comfortable for them to clarify any doubts with me. Knowing the importance for parents to keep track of their child's learning progress, I will take some time off after each lesson to do so and advise them on ways to facilitate their child's learning if possible.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
To ensure that I stay updated to the curriculum, I will definitely make sure to read up the syllabus and its marking criteria. I believe in making learning an enjoyable journey for all through the use of interactive tools like quizzes to engage students.
As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor, I believe it is important to stay updated to the syllabus and have a comprehensive knowledge of the marking criteria. It is also especially important to value depth over breadth such as going in depth and clarify any existing conceptual errors instead of gliding over them and diverting the focus to other questions. Though it is indisputable that practice makes perfect, in the process of practicing, it is necessary for students' to understand and internalize their mistakes first before carrying on with their practice. In doing so, it is definitely a more efficient way for students to learn. Moreover, exposure to different types of questions cannot be neglected when it comes to broadening students' horizons. Additionally, a good tutor not only have to be readily equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills, he too must have the ability to effectively communicate his knowledge. Last but definitely not least, I believe that making the curriculum fun and interesting is key to engage and enrich the students' learning journey, making learning more enjoyable and fun.
