I would ask the parents about their child (e.g. what their studying style is like, when are they most productive, what are they weak in academically), and also update the parents on their child's progress. On top of that, I would forge a good relationship with the child based on trust and an understanding that I only want the best for him/her.

I visit bookstores like Popular to check out the current textbooks and assessment books on sale.
As a Good Tutor
The most important qualities are to have an interest in teaching and a genuine want to pass on valuable knowledge to someone else. I believe that patience, determination, dedication, and all the other good qualities will come naturally if the tutor is interested in teaching.
