Tuition/Teaching Experience
I have given tuition to primary school students on a voluntary basis since 2014 until the present. I believe students perform better with praise, and I am very encouraging. Thus, students will excel.

Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start on 13th August, and I am able to commit long-term as I see this as my permanent job.
Rapport Building
For my students, I will find out about more about their preferences first. For instance, I will ask what they like to do in their free time, what kind of games they like to play, and which subject they enjoy and dislike the most. I believe that's where they will slowly start opening up to me, as I share about the subjects which did not appeal as much to me when I was in school. I will also occasionally give them small challenges. For instance, if they do well for their CAs/SAs, I will reward them with small gifts to encourage them.

For their parents, I will try to talk to them often about how their children are performing, and depending on how much information they are comfortable to share with me, I will ask them how their relationship with the kids is like (if it's necessary). Occasionally, I will buy some snacks for my students and parents to share, as I believe food is a very good way to break the ice.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I will ask my friends who are in MOE about the syllabus, and also look up on assessment books at bookstores regularly to keep myself updated with the curriculum. I will also ask my students about the curriculum they have in school currently (for the older students who are able to answer). I will then adapt my teaching materials according to the new syllabus.
As a Good Tutor
I think a good tutor must take the initiative to prepare materials for his students, and to be ready to re-learn any concept which might be unfamiliar to him at first. I believe being a good tutor also means being patient and encouraging with the child, as praise works better than scoldings for children in general, unless the child really needs to be lectured. Also, the tutor must put in the effort to engage the child, as being engaged is important in keeping the child's interest in the subject and in learning.
