Commitment / Other Details
I am able to commit to this job for almost 4-5 years. I am currently still waiting for University to start and will still be able to find time to teach on the weekends as an when I enroll in NUS.
Rapport Building
As an outgoing individual, I'm quite sure I will be able to interact with the students well. I usually meet up with both the students and the parents to discuss about their goals and expectations before the first tuition schedule. This not only sets the objective clearly but also gives me an idea of what the student is like and how exactly to get the best out of him/her. I will make sure that the student has an enjoyable learning experience. However, I also believe in maintaining a professional relationship in order to make sure the objectives set out are met.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I currently have a very student who is still in Secondary 4. Since I teach him Additional Mathematics as a tutor, I am fully aware of what the curriculum is and I am familiar with the type of questions they set.
As a Good Tutor
In my personal opinion, a good tutor is someone who is able to control the student well. He/She should not be intimidating to the student but rather gain respect from the student. This will make sure that if there are any homework/discussions to be done, the student does not neglect it and do it at all costs. This will make sure that the learning process is not hindered as subjects like mathematics require ample practice.
The tutor must also be able to understand the student. A typical student today in Singapore faces significant levels of stress and it is paramount that a tutor is able to cater the needs of the students. This will ensure that the student feels comfortable around the tutor and hence, is more willing to learn. Different students has different needs and it is a tutor's job to understand him/her and create the best learning environment for the student at hand.
