Taught tuition during NS. Followed through with 2 students into secondary school but stopped when university commitments made it difficult to give my best to my students.
Able to start asap. Prefer to teach on weekday afternoons/evenings.
Rapport Building
Well, a little humour helps. A child will learn little in a stressed out state. And, at this stage of their education, i don't presume it will be very useful to a child's development for a tutor to just be reactive and respond only when the student has a question. So, it helps when I'm quite the talker and speak pretty good english.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have recent math textbooks from P4-P6 and am familiar with the marking schemes. Considering it is rather late in the school year, for my prospective students, I would focus more on the application of concepts rather than the learning new concepts. With that in mind, I have test papers from past years which would be more useful in reinforcing whatever they have learnt in the school year. In my experience, it is also more efficient to identify the areas the child is weak in and clarify whatever doubts they have instead of repetitive tests.
As a Good Tutor
You can expect a tutor who comes in prepared and on time for every lesson. Very patient in teaching concepts and for your child, perhaps some assessments and tests, preferably as HW so we can maximize the tuition experience.
