Tuition/Teaching Experience
I tutored underprivileged children at Care Corner Centre (Woodlands) in Secondary 4. I helped them better understand any unfamiliar concepts in all their subject areas
I can commit time from now till June 19. After that, I will be able to commit time from 10th July till mid-September.
Rapport Building
When it come to academics, I am a very focused person. I believe in helping people achieve their personal objectives, and if possible, helping them surpass these goals. I personalise the delivery of tuition to the individual needs of the student and aim to generate interest for the subject, not just good results. I believe that one will be able to perform much better if they like the subject and it also allows for strong foundations which will lead to better performance in future.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I read up the IB curriculum regularly and refer to my notes from my time as an IB student for the topics I am familiar with. As time goes on, curricula change with new topics being added and old ones removed over time. For the new topics, I refer to texts and do my own extra reading to ensure I clearly understand the intricacies of the subject matter.
As a Good Tutor
I believe a tutor must be enthusiastic, energetic, perceptive and flexible. An unenthusiastic and lethargic tutor will be unable to generate interest for the subject in the student, and while the student may still learn, he/she will not perform to the best of their ability if they do not have much interest. A good tutor must also be perceptive to the learning style, strengths and weaknesses of the student and be flexible enough to change their teaching approach and tailor it such that the student obtains the greatest benefit from the tuition sessions.
