Rapport Building
Hello! My name is Jaymee, and currently awaiting for my 'A' Level results. I may not have had formal tutoring experience prior to this, but I do believe that my past experiences when collaborating with other people as a student leader has helped me to attune myself to the needs of those around me and thus act accordingly. Such experiences include being the Student Council Vice-President in Ngee Ann Secondary School, Chairperson of College Publications in Meridian JC and multiple other projects and events like orientation for our freshmen.

Some of my interests and passions include reading and writing. This passion was fuelled by my spontaneous decision to take up H1 Literature in JC - which has refined my reading and comprehensive skills and honed my appreciation for the dynamics of language.

Other than that, I also tend to find myself a very opinionated person. I occasionally write reviews on films and books, and contribute to the nationwide dialogue when it comes to politics. This trait of mine was what led me to take part in the Pre-U Seminar back when I was in J1 where we got to interact with other students from different JCs/Polytechnics.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am regularly conversing with other tutors and family friends whose children are still schooling. When assigned, I would go to the bookstore and look through the relevant exercise books, TYS to further hone my understanding of the kind of questions that students are put up with today.
As a Good Tutor
I believe that being on the same wavelength with both student and parents is imperative to a student's learning. This can only be achieved only when teachers are genuinely invested in the student's progress and in inculcating a passion for the subject in hand. Based on my own experiences as a student, I found much interest in the subjects taught by passionate and invested teachers. This helped me to be willing to learn on my own and thus found myself improving substantially.

Teachers and tutors alike who have talked to my parents about my performances and needs were very helpful to me because my parents became more understanding and aware of my inadequacies. As such, I do believe that both tutors and parents need to have the same understanding of a student's needs in order to provide him/her an optimal environment for progress.

The importance of having a passion for learning was not ingrained in me until I was thrown under the grind in Junior College. It was during my preparations for 'A' Levels that truly got me to appreciate the experience of directly addressing my own flaws and inadequacies. Through the process, I have recognised the teaching tactics that my teachers used on my class and myself as an individual that proved useful for my own progress.

For example, when I used to struggle with H2 Mathematics, my private tutor helped me to improve rapidly not solely through exercises but also with a bit of pep talk and multiple revelations on the kind of strategies used in questions and exam-formatting alike. This was especially useful for me because it helped me to gain more confidence in dissecting unseen questions and recognising its demands. My problem-solving skills had improved and I later found that this newfound confidence could be applied to the rest of my subjects. These are some of the skills that I hope to be able to share with to other struggling students.
