Commitment / Other Details
I am looking to start in January 2017 and would only be able to commit up to year end 2017 as i would be starting my Mechanical Engineering course with NUS in August 2017.
Rapport Building
I would do so by constantly keeping myself updated and involved with my students' studies. By doing so i would be able to constantly monitor his weak areas and work on those weaker areas with him. I would also keep my student's parents updated on his/her progress and would give review on their child's performance and progress in the subject. This would undoubtedly allow me to build a good rapport with both my students and their parents.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I look the syllabus up online on the SEAB website to familiarise myself with the subject content, as well as study the learning outcome of each topic. From there would be able to understand what are the important concepts to teach the student on, thereby making sure that the learning outcomes are met. In addition, i buy assessment books from Popular to analyse and familiarise myself with the type of questions that are being asked as well the way they are set. This allows me to have a better grasp of the kind of approach that i can teach the students to take towards questions.
As a Good Tutor
I feel that the one quality good tutors must have is patience, which is one i feel i have. Patience is crucial as it allows students to learn well at his own pace. This especially so for slower learners as only then would these student be able to learn effectively. I believe that every student is capable and that 'no one is stupid'. It is only a matter of time. If given enough time, coupled with good guidance, the student should be able to perform. I would adapt my teaching pace according to the students' learning ability and would move on only when he has fully understood what's being taught.
Another quality which i believe i have and feel is important is friendliness. Although student- teacher relationship is professional, being friendly will allow the student to feel more at ease. This would encourage the student to be more outspoken and communication would be much better. This faciliates teaching as it helps me to understand and get to know my student better.
In addition, a good tutor has to be hardworking as well. Meaning, providing necessary resources to aid in teaching. For example , like helping to make customised notes to aid student in the understanding of the topic.
