Commitment / Other Details
Although I have gotten all A's for both my A'lvl and O'lvl, I have struggled with math before. I am intimately aware of the pitfalls, problems and common misconceptions that students may have.
Rapport Building
I have always believed in the importance to build a strong and supportive relationship with my students. Having struggled with math before, I am able to relate to the feelings and frustrations of my students very well. I strive to allow my students to make mistakes and yet be able to learn from those mistakes through a thorough explanation of the problem. Having had experience in failing makes me intimately aware of what motivates my students as well and would do my best to motivate them to the best of my abilities. I also make it a point to actively engage my student's by sharing my own struggles with them in order to motivate them further. It is also very important for me to constantly get to know my students, in order to know more about their motivations as well as interest in order to facilitate the learning process.
I also believe in the importance of keeping parents in the know of their children's development and would actively seek to help them have a better understanding of their child's situation and problems.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As an exercise to keep up with the curriculum, I would review assessment books and try the questions. This is ensure that I am in the know of the syllabus but also review the potential pitfalls of difficult questions.
As a Good Tutor
I have on more than one occasion give extra lessons to my tutees free of charge because I truly wish to see my students succeed and I believe that they should not be denied the help they need because of financial difficulty. Having been in that kind of situations before gave me a unique perspective to the struggles of a needy family who might not have all the resources to ensure that their children do well. Having the passion to see my students improve is therefore the trait that I believe a good tutor should have.
