Rapport Building
I enjoy sharing life stories and will discuss studying and coping strategies with the students to assess their needs, difficulties and strengths. I believe that feedback helps and normally give the student and parents an update at the end of lesson to reiterate positive areas and how to go about improving areas of weaknesses.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
For O and A level students , I refer to the O and A syllabi specified by the Singapore Examinations Assessment Board (SEAB) to keep updated to the latest trends and changes in the Ministry-regulated curriculum.

For lower secondary levels, I understand that different schools structure their syllabi differently and my approach is to get a scaffold/blueprint of the student's syllabus during the first lesson and understand the approach and direction that their school is taking and to design my lessons and teaching methods according to the requirements of the school. However, most schools usually base off their syllabus from a general template/textbook with occasional deviations.
As a Good Tutor
A patient, motivating and thorough tutor as well as a firm believer in the education pedagogy of understanding the fundamental concepts first followed by practice, practice and continued practice, my approach is to undertake a thorough revision of each of the topics in order to reiterate concepts taught in schools and to clarify any misconceptions at the basic level before proceeding on to the next level of difficulty. Following this, I will proceed with exercises (via school assignments, assessment books and worksheets) to assess the student's understanding and application of their knowledge. To top it off, I will also conduct a recap session at the start of the next lesson where the student has to share what he/she has remembered from the previous lesson - a sort of verbal test. This I believe would serve as a revision booster to maximise retention through repeat and reiteration.

As every student has different ways he/she copes with and retains information, I'm open to adapting strategies accordingly.

In addition, I also enjoy sharing life concepts and would occasionally explain and show how some of the academic points that the student is learning can be applied in their daily life and observations. Education shouldn't strictly be kept within the bubble but be applied to and explored in the wider scheme of life for a more enriching and enhanced appreciation of information.
