I have been a part time tutor since my undergraduate years from 2008.
I have taught primary 1 to 3 english mathematics science,

One of my primary 1 student who was struggling with his English and Math, topped the class for Math by end of the year. Another boy whom I taught Math from Secondary 1 to 4, got an A for his O'Level Mathematics and is currently doing Aeronatuical Engineering in Singapore Polytechnic. With his excellent grades in his Mathematics, he qualified to do special Mathematics program for his diploma.
General feedback that I receive from parents is that I am a patient tutor. I have an interest for Math and would like to inspire others to excel in the subject, just like me.

Rapport Building
For students, I usually maintain eye contact and a smiley face when I first meet them and start of every tuition session. This is to make them feel comfortable and that I am approachable.
Besides that I will try to infuse some story telling in my conversations with students. Through story telling, I am able to keep the students engaged and by connecting the story to the lesson, I am able to deliver the subject to the students in a different way.
For parents, I usually give constant feedback on the performance of the student. I try my best to feedback face to face if able to meet up with the parent. Otherwise, will at least follow up in a phone call. Constant feedback to parents will keep them updated on the performance of the student.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I do check out the latest assessment books and test papers to keep updated with the curriculum. I do practice on the assessment books and test papers to keep myself familiar with the curriculum. Also, I have friends who are teachers in both primary and secondary schools. I do check in with them on the latest curriculum from time to time.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor is someone who patiently guides a student to excel in at least a subject area or talent by understanding his or her interest and capabilities. I order to understand the student's capabilities, a good tutor will be able to build good rapport with the students first. Then, thereafter starts the guidance to excel in the subject area. Besides building good rapport with students, a good tutor should build good rapport with their parents too.
