Tuition/Teaching Experience
I'm a student who used to be easily distracted; even if I knew the importance of my grades, I could not stop myself from gaming near major exams. Hence I can empathize with those who may have the mental aptitude but lack the focus to achieve, and adapt my teaching methods to suit them.

I also have experience working with children in various settings-teaching about back problems in preschool, and the mentally challenged via TOUCH caring center. These experiences have tempered my patience (I used to have a really short fuse, haha) and opened my mind to the people who talents may not lie in the area of studies.

Lastly, I'm offering tuition services for multiple subjects, including English Language and Lingustics, so if you wish I could tutor multiple subjects to promote familiarity.

Commitment / Other Details
I am able to commit to an assignment for up to 2 years, between 2015 and 2017. I am able to start at any point in time within this year.
Rapport Building
I believe first and foremost that the student has to be able to accept my style of teaching- I have a younger brother who I tutored for A levels and it was difficult for him to accept my assertive style of teaching as he had a headstrong personality and often rejected explanations unless justified by a greater authority. Hence I changed my tactic-instead of offering him direct explanations I simply directed him towards the generally accepted answer with prompts and hints. Often, I realized, he already knew the answer to his question long before I even got close to giving out the obvious leads. To build rapport with my students is to adapt to each person's personality. Parents on the other hand I will try to provide insights into the student's capabilities in a politically correct manner-many parents feel that hard work will surely pay off for every student, yet there are limits to this assumption. Having too high expectations of their child often puts unnecessary pressure on the student to excel, which may negatively affect the final grade. To build rapport with them I would consult them on the student's behavior and personality-not only would that be a common topic, but would also provide insights from different perspectives on the student's studying habits.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Many of my subjects are in fact directly related to the modules I am currently taking-English Language and Linguistics is a subset of the Business Communication module I take in NUS Business School, while Economics is a lighter version of Managerial Economics taught in my modules. Additionally, I have the recent experience of coaching my brother for A levels this year (2015) and thus have updated myself with regard to the current A level syllabus.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor should have faith not only in his students, but in his own teaching. He should not be afraid to defer to a student's better judgement, but has to remain confident in his own curriculum.
