Experienced in both Express and Normal Academic Physics(SPA) and Science(Physics) syllabus.
The main issue faced by students in Physics stems from poor conceptual understanding and a lack of exposure to a variety of questions. Currently, there is a clear trend towards more application-based and conceptual questions, more qualitative than quantitative questioning.
Self-study has only a limited effect on a student's understanding and may perpetuate misconceptions due to a lack of guidance from school teachers and/or incorrect methods picked up from peers. Thus, the "need" for proper supervision. I use ICT tools in my profession as an MOE teacher to enable students to visualize concepts taught as Physics goes beyond just mathematical formulae.
