I do one-on-one tutoring sessions that are each 1.5-2hours long. I have a great interest in teaching & broadening student's knowledge in their academia. I also have a great affinity with children, and my students always seem to enjoy and look forward to my tutoring sessions held weekly. I have seen improvements in my students' results and the way they approach problems & solutions too, which motivates me as their tutor greatly seeing them learning something from my tutoring sessions with them.

Commitment / Other Details
I am currently a full-time University Undergraduate in NUS, thus I will be mostly available on weekends. I might be able to tutor during the weekdays too depending on my semester timetable. As my timetable has to be fixed at the start of every semester (January and August), the weekday timings can only be determined then.

My school examination period would be in late April-early May & late November. Around that period, I may request for 2-4 weeks off from tutoring to focus on my own studies.

My semester breaks are in late May-early August & December. During my breaks, I will be more available during the weekdays.

My preferred locations for the tutoring sessions are the tutees' houses. I am willing to hold evening sessions. I also do not mind extra sessions within a month if the students/parents request for it, as long as it fits with my school commitment level.

My Current Tutoring Sessions (Unavailability):
- Sundays, 11AM - 1PM at Bukit Batok
- Sundays, 2PM - 4PM at Choa Chu Kang
- Sundays, 5PM - 7PM at Choa Chu Kang

Other Commitments:
- Once a month, Saturday, 1PM - 4PM
Rapport Building
At the start, I will usually ask my students about how they feel about the subject that I will be tutoring them on, and also ask about their school's teaching style as well as their results so far. As I go along with their tutoring sessions, I am always on the lookout that my students are motivated to learn and are comfortable with my teaching style during the tutoring sessions. As I personally believe the students will not learn much if they are not motivated/uninterested/uncomfortable, I will always try my best to ensure the students have a positive learning attitude so they can obtain optimal learning too.

Different students have their different best ways of learning, thus, as I go along with my sessions with the students, I usually come to learn of the students' personalities, interests, and their respective ways of learning. I will then try to alter my teaching style accordingly to best fit with them to ensure they can achieve optimal learning. For example, one of my current student is a happy-go-lucky P3 student, and my sessions with her are always ones filled with smiles as we go about doing the assignments for the day and even more so when she manages to get her questions correct. On the other hand, another student of mine is a quiet driven learner, and my tutoring sessions with him are slightly more serious. As I've realized that he thrives better that way as compared to if I make the sessions as lightweight as the P3 student's, I have kept my sessions with him in that manner, but still never keeping the sessions to serious or stress-inducing. I also have another primary school student who is greatly interested in Science. With this student, I am always sharing with him about my learnings in Science too as I am a Life Science undergraduate, and telling him about what it's like to conduct Science experiments.

For the parents, I will usually talk to them about the problems their children are facing in their studies, and how they would like me to go about with teaching their children. I will also update the parents about their children's learning progress, and highlight their strengths and weaknesses. At times, I will also share my observations with the parents about the children, such as how they go about learning and their academic interests too. I also tend to discuss with the parents on whether they would like me to get additional learning materials for the children, or if their school textbooks, workbooks & assessment books are sufficient.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I usually refer to the MOE syllabus to keep up with the curriculum. I will also always look through my students' textbooks, workbooks, and test papers to understand the standard that their schools are setting for the subject. In addition to that, I will also refer to assessment books for external standards.
As a Good Tutor
As a student myself, I personally believe in a constant learning curve and that learning should be fun. Thus, as a tutor, I feel that a good tutor should be able to impart positive ways of learning such that students can get optimal learning from the tutoring sessions that are held. A good tutor should also be flexible and be understanding that not all students are the same, and that each and every one of them have different learning curves. Thus, good tutors should be able to pace themselves with the students and also be able to push them if the students are capable of achieving more. The most important basic quality that a good tutor should have is the most important one that any teacher should have, that is they should be able to teach/give the students knowledge. Aside that, I also believe that good tutors should be always encouraging and motivating the students accordingly, and not putting them down.
