I have been teaching Science, Physics, and Chemistry for students from pri5-sec5 since 2007, and have been teaching piano students aged 5-50. I also have experience teaching in music school and tuition center for about 5 years.
Apart from explaining tough concepts in a simple and easy way for students to understand, I also encourage students to do their own revision and have some form of preparation done before classes. It is crucial for students to have an idea of what they don't know as it allows them to improve more in a shorter period of time. Towards examinations, lessons usually take place in consultation style and will be very dense in the form of answering questions that the students have.
My students have improved from failing grades to getting As in their exams.

Commitment / Other Details
I see tuition as a way for students to be assisted in their studies, so usually there will be more lessons towards exam periods while there are less lessons during CCA-intensive periods. Lesson times are generally flexible depending on the students' schedules and preparation.
For piano, adults usually have interests in playing certain songs. Hence, for adult piano lessons, I arrange scores that are within the students' capabilities to play on the piano. This is because scores freely available online may be of a different version to the student's liking or may be too difficult for adult beginners. Arranging scores make it possible for students to play a song they like in the early stages of learning. Adult piano lessons occur about 3 times a month as adults usually cannot commit to have lesson every single week. As I'm teaching piano and science full time, my schedule is really flexible and I try to accommodate my students as much as possible.
