I taught in an Elite Primary School before leaving the service to be a full time tutor.
Rapport Building
I believe that patience towards the child is very important. I am able to repeat explanations or use other ways of explaning a concept till a child gets it (up to 10 times). I also believe that understanding what problem the child faces is of paramount importance.

As for parents, I think spending time to understand what the parent want and hope the child to achieve is important.
